You know how in the 2004 elections we had the student polling to see how students would vote? And you know how I think every single "riding" went Liberal or NDP mainly or Green maybe, ie NOT Conservative? They did the same thing this time, maybe with a younger age group, not sure, but I think it's something like half or more went Conservative.
It just surprised me cause A) They aren't great for students, and B) I thought that the younger generations were becoming more and more liberal minded overall.
I guess, I always thought that it was just a general trend of kids being more liberal. And you have to admit, compared to our year, which was not that long ago, it's a HUGE shift.
in general, youth tend to be more liberal and NDP since they aren't financially independant and don't pay taxes, thus they focus on social issues when supporting a party. That all changes when you start realising how much money goes to the government, money that helps people you don't know
I definitely don't think taxes are a bad thing, and there is nothing wrong with actually helping people you don't know. That being said, there is quite a bit of money that just go into people's pockets for personal gain and such too. But it's like that with ANY government.
Hey, I didn't vote for 'em. And I doubt they will hold a lot of the promises they made. Definitely not on other issues with a minority government, perhaps not the GST one, who knows?
The government can't afford it, basically. But, it's what they were elected on (pretty much)...that and the sponsorship scandal. They need to at least attempt it.
Yah, they will attempt just to say that they fulfilled their promise of trying, but I don't think it will pass. This might be a good thing in the long run, Steven Harper serves, doesn't do great, Liberals get back, but aren't as complacent as they were and so we get a better government after about 3/4 years assuming there isn't ANOTHER nonconfidence vote.

And students don't realize how bad it is...they don't really think about the policies to a great extent...well, most of them.
