Memories of JET and Japan

Nov 30, 2010 01:37

JET alumni: quick little query for you all. :)

When you think of your JET experience, what comes to mind?

No limits: memories, artifacts, things, places, people, foods, feelings. Anything at all. Kneejerk responses and happy times you like to ponder over. All are welcome.

Thanks!

Pretty muchh everything in my journal!

Especially
*Riding my bike around my city and by the lake. So awesome in sunny weather and sunset, and night time when all the city lights shone across the lake.
*My students, who never called me another foreigner's name, made me smile, cried when I left, touched my boobies, went to camp with, came to see me perform in a local festival, swapped cool music with, taught me Japanese, came to chat with me everyday etc etc!
*Riding on trains, espeically the rickety local trains, and watching the views fly by.
*Breaking out of the inaka and raiding foreign food shops in the city. Then lying on my hostel bed binging on cheese, chocolate and crisps!
*hanami and cherry blossom rain
*Being famous!
*Meeting other ALTs from all around the world and learning their English and their culture.
*Being so new and shocked at everything in the begining, turning so Japanese by the end.
*Onsen - I love them so much!
*The kindness and generiousity of the people. Never have I received so much free food, cooking lessons and random gifts!

Ah so many more, but I'd better stop there.

Good idea for a post, I enjoyed reading through everyone's answers.
