And search for Shiga and Nagahama under groups. There's a lot of ALTs on the forum and under the files section (particularly in the Nagahama group) there's some great info.
Haha, yep, I've been here for 2 years. ShigaJET (which is what we still call it, even though the domain has been changed to ESLwell.com) is a really great tool for keeping up with what's going on in Nagahama and the prefecture. And I must say, you have a GREAT placement. You'll likely get annoyed with being so far north (your last train out of Osaka is 10 pm and Kyoto is 10:30 pm, while JETs a bit farther south can stay out considerably later) but Nagahama is a really easy place to live. And Shiga is fantastic. We Shiga JETs are pretty much always saying how much we lucked out getting this placement. It's ideal for traveling -- Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Nagoya are all easy day trips, and Tokyo/Yokohama and Hiroshima are easy weekend trips. And yet, in Nagahama, you get the beautiful natural scenery, too! It's the best of both worlds, in my opinion

My JET placement is down in Kumamoto, but I lived in Otsu for a year in high school as an exchange student. I love Shiga and wish I would have been sent back there for JET. Kyoto is pretty much my One True Love (in Japan), and even though Nagahama is further north in the prefecture than Otsu, it's still pretty close to Kyoto.
In short, I'm super jealous! (I do like Kumamoto, though.)
