I went on my first ride yesterday evening. Probably 45 minutes. Went to a neighborhood shop and had them fit the bike to me. Was told that my "crevice" (cre-vaas: that's what I'm calling the part of my butt that is sore) will stop aching in a few days. The dude said the bike is basically brand new and doesn't need any work until the end of the ( Read more... )

well, if you are focused on eating close to downtown, there are a couple places that are popular:

1. Dragonfish. I don't think it is the best place in town...but decent. A bit pricey. My neighbor happens to work there and says it's best/cheaper during happy hour. http://www.yelp.com/biz/dragonfish-asian-cafe-portland
2. Masu. Very good! Fresh and tasty. Nice atmosphere. http://www.yelp.com/biz/masu-portland
If you venture outside of downtown:
1. I LOVE BaRa in SE. It is a house converted into a restaurant. Cozy and clean. Very fresh seafood. Always good service. http://www.yelp.com/biz/bara-sushi-house-portland
2. Also in SE, is Bamboo. Local Sustainable, Organic when possible. Beautiful food, flavorful. Nice outdoor seating. http://www.yelp.com/biz/bamboo-sushi-portland

Breakfast in Portland is a very big deal. We are known for great places...in fact most folks I know are more inclined to eat out for breakfast, rather than any other meal.

My faves:
Gravy (North Pdx). The best gravy in town,. hands down. Huge portions, enough for 2 or 3 meals. Great scrambles. Oatmeal Brulee. OMG. Yum. And the Biscuits are perfect. Challah French Toast! Long waits unless you get there right when open.
Screen Door (SE): Long waits also, so best to get there early or be OK with waiting. Home fries are SO good. Big bowls of oatmeal with fresh seasonal fruit. They are famous for the fried chicken and sweet potato waffle. And grits. Great benedict!
Toast (SE): Neighborhood cafe, small, quaint, great service. Lots of neat different items...great sweet onion tarts and homemade breads.
Paradox (SE): Vegan/veggie but you'd never know it. Huge corncakes with fresh fruit, tofu scrambles, homemade onion toast. It's kind of diner like.
Byways (Pearl District): Blue cornmeal pancakes are SO good. Also good hash, cinammon rolls...DYKE owned :>)

Hopefully some of that helps! Yelp has them listed if you need addresses, etc.
