In the Bloody Hospital

Ronn brought me in Sunday at the advise of the on call doc of my OBGYN.  No matter how many BP pills I took I couldn't get my BP down from 183/104.  So I was admitted on Sunday around 3pm.  They took blood and decided to make me do a 24 hour urinalisys...so much fun.  They wanted to make sure I was pre-eclampsia.  Blood work came back fine, ( Read more... )

I agree with Kathy.

You could also see about FMLA, if the doctor considers this a high risk pregnancy. It would at least help protect your job from the attendance standpoint.

Seconded - get the paperwork for it now. You get I think 12 weeks per year for Intermittent FMLA (480 hours), and you don't have to take it all at once. You can also backdate the paperwork to yesterday, when you were admitted to the hospital, to cover the absence from yesterday and today. They may or may not pay you for the time, but if you're on FMLA, they can't fire you for missing the time. As long as you've been a full-time employee for at least 52 weeks, you're covered by federal law. Just get the doctor to certify the papers. Your HR department should have them. If not, I'm sure they're online.

Most people here apply for FMLA as soon as the stick turns blue. That way, if they need to leave on a moment's notice for an unexpected pregnancy-related doctor visit, they won't get in trouble.
