Today in the mail, my father received a letter from Sarah Palin. Yes, it is that
Sarah Palin. Anyway, the letter was related to the
50th anniversary of Alaska's statehood. My father had been doing research on a John Beaton, a man originally from this little Cape Breton village of Port Hood, who went to Alaska around the turn of the century. In 1908 he discovered gold at
Iditarod, and later went on to found an airline which merged with
Alaska Airlines. He had been in contact with a descendant of this John Beaton, who was providing information to the commission in charge of the 50th anniversary celebration, as this John Beaton was important for opening up Alaska.
So he received a thank you letter, one that seems to have been sent out to a lot of people, but it did have her actual signature on it.
