Yuletide letter
This is kind of preliminary; this year I have six fandoms I want A LOT, and so even though these are the four I've initially chosen, depending on how many other people request them, I may switch one of them out for Hidden Fortress or Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series, which are the other two fandoms I really want this year. (I'll delete this note when signups close.) But for now, the list is...
General
Every year, I say that I don't want smut, and this year I don't want it either, with one kind-of exception detailed below. I don't like fics about cheating or break-ups, either (again, with exception detailed below.) Other than that, I generally like pretty much everything! Comedy, angst, fluff, bittersweet, introspective stuff, action plots... really, I'm very easy to please. For the specifics, below:
The ArchAndroid - Janelle Monae (Any)
Prompt: Tell me more about this universe! I'd love backstory on some of the characters, or the stories of some of the androids, or just anything at all. It would be great if it could be somewhat surreal, like the songs/mythology themselves. You can include however much is up to you-go off on a tangent about somebody in the Many Moons video, throw something together from the albums, incorporate info from her blog, whatever is cool.
Extra notes: I signed up for the ArchAndroid, but really I'm asking for fic about the story that's common to both of Monae's albums. I don't mind if it turns out to be Metropolis-only material, or ArchAndroid-only material, or both.
Availability: Both albums (Metropolis: The Chase Suite and The ArchAndroid) can easily be purchased in the US; the Many Moons and Tightrope music videos are available on Youtube. I'm not sure about access outside the US, but if nothing else, they should be easily available via download sites.
Glass Mask (Maya, Ayumi)
Prompt: I'd love fic about Maya and Ayumi and their rivalry/friendship. It can be romantic, or a fic about their platonic relationship, or a fic about either of them separately. What I like most about this series is the descriptions of how the actors get into their characters, so any story that incorporates that kind of thing would be awesome.
Extra notes: I've only read the scanlated chapters of this manga (which are currently in the middle of the arc where Maya plays a wolf girl). I haven't seen any of the anime series, or read any plot summaries of newer volumes. Please don't spoil me for any of the newer manga content; I don't mind if you include anime-only stuff, but it might confuse me.
Availability: This manga isn't officially licensed in English, and it probably never will be. The fan-scanlated chapters are available from places like MangaTraders.
Machete (Sartana, Luz)
Prompt: I thought these two had major sparks, and so I'd love to have anything about their relationship (platonic or otherwise) post-movie. Does Sartana start helping out with the network? Does Luz start lobbying politicians? Do they argue over political philosophy and immigration reform? Do those arguments end in makeouts? Anyway, you get the idea.
Extra notes: None in particular.
Availability: Unfortunately, the DVD of this movie won't be released until after Yuletide, so if there aren't any dollar theaters in your area, you may have to resort to unorthodox channels. I checked, and there do seem to be active torrents of it floating around.
Samuel R Delaney - Triton (Bron):
Prompt: While I thought the book ended in an appropriate place, I'd love to have some fic set after it where Bron works through some of her neuroses. (Not too many, of course ;) ) I'd love fic about her coming to terms with some of her (now-)internalized sexism, perhaps through finding a romantic partner who is (or isn't) what she would expect, or through dealing with some of the aftermath of the war, or going back to Mars or to some other place, or perhaps simply through living her life as a woman. One thing in particular that I very much do not want is Bron transitioning back into being a man, or into any other gender; ficwise, I'm most interested in Bron as a woman.
Extra Notes: I've mostly been requesting no smut, but I understand that a fic filling this prompt might require explicit sex, and I'm okay with that. I still don't want a PWP or anything like that, though; while I am interested in the sexual aspect, I'm more interested in culture, gender, and digging more deeply into some of the implications of the world-building (solar-system-building?), that kind of stuff. Relationship breakups and/or infidelity are also okay for this prompt, and I don't mind if you build a fic around either of those (though of course you don't have to).
Availability: This book has been republished under the title Trouble in Triton: An Ambiguous Heterotopia, and is available new from places like Amazon. However, if you didn't specifically offer this fandom, fair warning: you're probably less likely to enjoy this book than any of the other three works I'm requesting. I'm not sure about its availability outside the US.
