Greyhounds as blood Donors

Apr 01, 2010 20:17

Dogs have 8 major distinct blood types, and like humans if they get the wrong blood type they can die. Greyhounds are 'universal donors' - over 60% of greyhounds are anyway. The Perth Vet Clinic in Osborne Park is asking for pet greys to become regular blood donors.

I am thinking about taking Barbie. The bonus is that she will get regular free health checks, and she will be saving other dog's lives. It also reduces the reliance on dogs (mainly also ex-racing greyhounds) who are actually housed in kennels just to act as blood donors. Fortunately those blood donor dogs only do it for a certain period of time, but hey, Barbie will just do it and then come home and get to sleep on her comfy bed.
