A/N: I'm so far behind with WGM, but omg the latest Goguma episode had me screaming like a little girl and therefore fanfic!
Seohyun has been Seohyun for so long now she's almost forgotten her real name. Even her mother calls her Seohyun. In fact the only times she's not Seohyun is when she's in trouble.
Like when she only cleans up her part of the dining table and Tiffany gets that murderous look in her eyes and crosses her arms and I know where you keep those sweet potatoes. Or that one time when she accidentally-on-purpose moved Sooyoung and Yoona's secret stash of snacks (they really shouldn't have been eating so unhealthily anyway; Seohyun always made sure there was a tub of carrot sticks in the fridge).
And she wasn't Seohyun that one time when it was her turn to wake up Jessica and she kind of sort of ripped the blankets off her sleeping unnie and in her escape threw them into Yuri and Taeyeon's arms to deal with the waking monster that stormed through the dorm. And she's never Seohyun whenever she walks into the practice room and Sunny and Hyoyeon are complaining about their new heels and she suggests that maybe they should stick to wearing flats (at which their eyes narrow into fatal slits as her name slips out of their gritted teeth and she's hightailing it out of there).
But otherwise, it's always Seohyun. In interviews, with fans, on the radio, answering calls, returning letters, writing thank you cards, her signature - always Seohyun.
And it's not like she's hiding her real name. It's definitely out there for anyone to find out. But it just faded away into obscurity, the syllables becoming meaningless and she never would have realised how much she missed it.
Until Yonghwa started calling her by it.
And it's such a slow and gradual process, that she didn't even notice it at first. And really it's only the change of one syllable, and every other time it's always Hy~un so it made sense she wouldn't pay too much attention to it.
But when they're beside that still pond and it's late at night, as his face tilts up and that smile echoes across the planes of his face, she notices.
She notices because he's so close, and he'd looked at her with those eyes and that feeling had risen in her throat and she's so very aware of how she can't seem to formulate a sentence in her head. So when he calls her that name, that name that nobody's used in who knows how long in a voice that does very unusual and slightly alarming things to her heart, she's kinda lost for words and she doesn't know what to say.
“Seo Juhyun,” (her heart stops and her head whirls and did he really...?), “Who knew that you would have this side?”
She turns her face away, too aware of the burning fire in her cheeks and thank God it's dark so he can't see the effect he's having on her. “The mosquitoes will go away soon won't they?”
“That's not important,” his voice, soft and quiet in the air, his eyes glowing with something that warms her through and she can't find the words to answer him.
“Seo Juhyun,” he repeats wondrously, a smile in his words and a part of her is kind of dying in happiness at the way he's saying her name. Her true name.
As if they were a real couple.
He straightens up from where he was sorting out the incense, and his eyes meet hers. And the only thing she can say is the only thing she can hear.
“Dugeun dugeun.”
The sound of her heartbeat roaring far too quickly in her ears. But when he smiles at her like that, looks at her like that, like she's the only thing that matters to him, there was very little else she could say without sounding like a fool.
“Seo Juhyun,” he whispers into the air between them, something warm and sweet and low in the tremor of his voice and she's speechless.
Because really the only thing that she could say to that, the thing that's racing through her mind and her blood and her veins is saranghae.
But she can't. At least, not until they've held hands.
