Dumpster dive hero

Just because you've been accepted
into a rebel community
doesn't mean the shit ain't there.
You're not more righteous
because you dumpster dive.
You're not a hero
for not watching TV.
You're not enlightened
for reading scriptures.
You're not free
because you don't wear a bra.

Just because you ask questions
doesn't mean there's not more to be asked.

Short skirts and pretty faces
isn't just a coincidence.
Every social standard is broken
except the big wall between us,
dividing men and women;
no questions asked.

Freedom doesn't mean
having to be objectified every time you leave your house.
Freedom doesn't mean
a race between body and mind.
Freedom means liberating yourself,
man or woman
from the ropes that tie us all down,
that dumb us all down.

Doing a little bit of good doesn't
eliminate the problem.
So you call gals birds, not bitches?
And you think that's good enough?

This needs to be discussed,
this needs to be pondered,
and something must be done.
So that little girls don't grow up
with miserable cynicism or low self esteem.
So that little boys don't grow up
with guilt and judgment,
or a stroked ego and no respect for half the human race.

Men: Every time you have a hard time understanding what it's like to be a female dealing with this, think about being objectified like a slab of meat in the Castro, and think about living your entire life to find out that that's just what you get.

Women: Look at the real picture. Know that you are beautiful and do everything you can to find yourself attractive and respectable. You're gonna have to learn to stand up for yourself at all costs. And throw away your fear of being seen as an 'uptight feminist', because how can a female not be a feminist??
