playing his 16th season with Manchester United, Paul Scholes is the best midfield player my eyes have ever seen. I just have an utmost respect for him. no ego, no silly mistakes, no diving, no nothing! just doing his best and whatever he gets asked for 16 regular seasons!
despite the fact that he was a pure attacking midfielder in the early years of his career, (even played as a striker a lot) he just turned himself into an all-around midfielder and became capable of playing as a defensive midfielder too. what describes perfectly this unique guy’s current position is; “a central midfielder, who is active in both defense and attacking areas”. there are only a few players in the world, who can do this. Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and maybe Xavi of Barcelona.
we are talking about a guy here, who can pass, who can tackle, who can dribble, who can make the play, who can shoot from distance… and this guy has been doing all of these for 16 years, without dropping his performance! and this performance just keeps going today! a 34 years old footballer might be considered old, especially for the “central midfield” position but he is still one of the key players of his team. I cannot think a Manchester United without him.
it’s not just me or Fergie who is in love with his ability. all the great names of football think the same about him. lets see who says what about Paul:
SIR BOBBY CHARLTON - "He’s always so in control and pinpoint accurate with his passing - a beautiful player to watch."
PATRICK VIEIRA - "The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy - Scholes"
CESC FABREGAS - "He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League".
SIR ALEX FERGUSON - (whilst having a list of Manchester United players over 30 read to him) "You forgot Paul Scholes - and he is my best player".
LAURENT BLANC - "I've said it before and i tell anyone who asks me; Scholes is easily the best English player. Intelligence, strength, unbelievable technique - all the attributes are there. At Manchester United I saw what he can do and all I could say is "wow".
SIR BOBBY CHARLTON - "Paul Scholes is my favourite player. He epitomises the spirit of Manchester United and everything that is good about football"
EDGAR DAVIDS - "Every one of us (midfielders) is just trying to become as good as him. Everyone can learn from Paul Scholes"
THIERRY HENRY - "I can't understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it's because he doesn't seek the limelight like some of the other "stars".
ZINEDINE ZIDANE- "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder".
CRISTIANO RONALDO - "He is a fantastic player - a key player in many games. He helps the team a lot. You learn many things from him as he is a mature player and has been at United a long time. It is always fantastic to play alongside someone of his quality."
ANDREI SHEVCHENKO - "They have two of the world's best young players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, but the player who most impresses me is Paul Scholes. He is United's most important player, he makes most things happen on the field. He is a legend, as is Ryan Giggs. The older players help guide the young players and give them balance."
GORDON STRACHAN - “He can score goals, hit crossfield passes, play one-twos, beat people and win headers in the opponents' box, so if you take that whole package I don't think I've seen anybody as consistent - and he's been doing that for 10 or 11 years."
DAVID BECKHAM - "He's always one of those people others talk about. Even playing at Real Madrid, the players always say to me 'What's he like'? They respect him as a footballer and to have that respect from some of those players is great. He always creates space and gets into the right places at the right time."
I just hope we keep watching this best ginger of football world ever seen… It is not just Manchester United, all the football thing will seen too empty when he quits.
