Unfortunately Ive had to do a lot of these lately.
Jesusfreaks is a safe forum for Christians to get together, encourage and be encouraged, discuss issues, and to make friends.
There are a few simple rules under which this community operates to maintain a relaxed and informal environment we believe is important for sharing the Gospel of Christ. These can found in the user info section of this community, along with the basics of what this community stand for. Among them is the rule that all members need to be respected. This is regardless of what anyone believes.
Regrettably, two individuals have been recently banned (the first we have had to ban in years) because they repeatedly broke this rule in a variety of different threads with different people.
There have been subsequent accustions and allegations that the moderators are anti-christian and/or agents of satan. This is simply not true. Please refer again the "userinfo" section for
jesusfreaks to get an understanding of what we believe.
There have been accusations/motivations that the moderators and others in this community support the so called "prosperity teaching". Personally I dont agree with this teaching, but I also dont believe it is the manifestation of the antichrist either, at least I have yet to see concrete evidence that it is. Despite this, it cannot be argued that people are unable to saved through these ministries. To me it is similar to the Catholic ministry, which has equally unscriptural and seriously worrying practices and teachings, yet despite this I have met some catholics who are clearly born again. I dont know exactly where my two co-moderators stand on "prosperity teaching", but what I do know is this: They believe Jesus Christ is the son of God. They believe that they themselves are sinners like you and me, are unworthy of being saved. They believe that through the death and resurrection of Jesus, they are saved. And that is good enough for me because this community is about Jesus. Whats more, they both have demonstrated their own humility in admitting their shortcomings publicly in this forum.
In
jesusfreaks, we like to discuss issues like the merits and/or woes of "prosperity teaching" (among others), and welcome both positive and negative views towards any subject. I personally would be interested to see a post supporting the theory that "prosperity teaching" is specifically satanic as has been alleged. Arguments well supported by scripture in particular would be welcome. Arguments that become a personal attack on any here individual will not. Those blatantly disrepecting others in this community will be warned once and once only.
Those who are able to present any case within the rules of this community can do so without fear of being banned, as has been incorrectly implied by those who have their own agendas. We are seekers of truth, in love.
People have regularly posted words of encouragement/exhortation and even rebuke from time to time in this community. This is all allowable, because it is not aimed at specific people. Sometimes posts are incorrect, ill-researched, not scripturally backed up or misinterpreted, in extreme cases a post can even be heresy. If you strongly disagree with a post, think about it a bit before you post a knee-jerk response. It is so easy to quickly type something hurtful or thoughtless. Demonstrating your ecclesiastical prowess is not going to win hearts and minds. By way of example, Paul never layed into the Greeks condemning their weird gods as some have done in this forum and elsewhere. Rather, he reasoned from the scriptures. 99% of the time the poster has not even considered your point, and certainly does not intend to misinterpret, or proclaim heresy. You´ll probably find she/he will agree with you if your case is reasonable and well presented, and everyone will be encouraged and actually learn something as apposed to the threads degenerating into a slagging match.
It should be remembered that this community is MULTI-DENOMINATIONAL and some members do not have the same teaching and upbringing, even culture as you do. So the safe thing to do is to assume nothing, assume they do not know the scriptures and take things from there. Even if they make a post that appears as if it is an exhortation/encouragement to all from someone in authority. Because invariably it is not.
If you have any problem with this, any fears, any concerns, please don´t hesitate to contact a moderator or myself directly. Our contact details, again are in the userinfo. I assure you, we are all very approacheable.
