So my birthday turned out pretty good after all. I didn't do anything special particularly for myself, but the day overall was fun. Then again my expectations weren't high considering I couldn't spend the day with any of my good friends or loved ones. My classmates were more-than-adequate substitutes, though :)
I didn't go into lab for reasons other than my birthday, so I got to sleep in (sorta)! The perfect start to the day. I started receiving birthday greetings at 6:15 IN THE MORNING (Brooke), then again at 8:30 IN THE MORNING (Tara - beautiful singing!), at which time I decided to silence my phone so I could sleep. Then the doorbell rang around 9AM waking me up again, and this turned out to be the mailman with Steven's card. I slept for a little while longer then got ready to meet my friend Wanda for lunch at a little French cafe near my apartment.
After lunch we got some coffee and headed to class (boo), which wasn't too painful but still annoying. Afterward a bunch of my classmates and I headed to a tapas restaurant on Haight St called Cha Cha Cha. Tapas are soooo popular in this city, and for good reason! We ordered lots of dishes to stuff ourselves full and kept the pitchers of sangria coming. Later we went to someone's apartment to hang out, played beer pong on the new table they bought, which I played (and won!) but didn't drink, and fooled around with the ghetto nintendo games. I walked home that night a little tipsy, somewhat wet (for it was mistily-raining), very exhausted, and alone, but overall pleased with my life here in San Francisco. Sure it could be better, especially if my boy were here, but then life can always be better.
To wrap up the day I checked my grade from last quarter online and discovered that I passed my first graduate school class. YAY!!! I was a bit worried because I did bad on the midterm, but I managed to pull myself back up somehow. I guess I'm not completely hopeless and maybe I can do this whole PhD thing. We'll see how these next two quarters go...
AND there will be a new season of The Bachelor coming up! Who else is excited? I don't know why, but I love watching that show.
