Concur'd. While I do not condone people getting drunk carelessly, it's just disaster waiting to strike, it doesn't justify anyone's abusive actions. Rape is never acceptable under any circumstance. No is no no no no no.
Sadly, a large number of the 'heres how to avoid it' and the 'she was asking for it' crowd are women. The reason? Saying "dressing/acting/looking a certain way invites rape" makes them feel less powerless. They feel that as long as they don't dress/act/look that way they are safe, so they perpetuate the cycle of blame.
As someone who has been raped, I agree 100%. But still want to emphasize to all that moving through the world with common sense and concern for your own safety is a very, very important thing. Not blaming myself or others for what happened, but living in a fantasy world that predators do not exist is counterproductive.
You cannot expect the predators of the world to behave morally. You can expect yourself to avoid dangerous situations.
