In my melancholy state, I have been thinking a lot about Elissa today. I got an email from my friend Monica, who coincidentally is Elissa's childhood best friend, and she's been on the brain and in the heart today. I recently heard of her for the first time, & just loved what I heard -- especially this cover of "Fields of Gold," which blows me away every time I hear it.

(off topic: I *LOVE* your "back-door boy in a front-door world" subtitle. I may have to borrow that at some point, with proper attribution of course)

11 full albums in tomorrow's post, so you'll get a good fill. Everything she did was Fields of Gold - trust me. Such a shame that she never got to see how well received she was in the world.

That subtitle is 100% me.

I am always blown away by her cover of Wayfaring Stranger. I cannot believe that was a scratch laydown. She was so amazing.

I adore her, she was pure magic. The only musician I know of that ever reworked cover songs and made them their own besides her was Jeff Buckley - who also died way too young. I adore him as well.

I used to sing that version of wayfaring stranger in this bar that used to have a bunch of musicians show up and jam. had to bring a cd as no one else had heard any version except the slow johnny cash one.

Hi, I'm a new livejournal user. I've been looking for people with similar musical taste, to achieve that I looked for the ones with '4AD' tag, and so I found you.

I believe Eva Cassidy is one the best artists who used to make covers. Her interpretations were always fine, and her voice was indeed beautiful. It's sad she died so young.
