[I] It's a good week to be a teacher. For all our liberality in most things, Spain is still very much culturally Catholic, and Easter week is a Very Big Deal around these parts. Which means, no class since last Thursday, and we don't go back till next Tuesday. Most people work during the week except for the Thursday and Friday of this week, but teachers get the full holiday, just like our kiddies. Sometimes I really love my job.
[II] I haven't been very active these past few days. Semana Santa (that's Easter week) is a busy time of the year when you come from a family of devout Catholics. There's mass and via crucis and processions and the whole shebang (the family doesn't take atheism as an excuse to pass on the activities), and that's just the "official" stuff. Then we still have the family reunions, and special days with godparents, and my godson coming to visit me. It's a busy time of the year. But I should have a bit more free time now, at least until Thursday!
[III] Last Sunday in church, there were two HUGE flatscreens up front where you could follow the lyrics to the hymns. It was like Holy Karaoke. My grandma was far from amused by that comment.
[IV] I know I'm awfully late to the party, but I watched Supersize Me on saturday and HOLY MOTHER. That is scary. All the sugar everywhere, and the cholesterol and heart problems in less than a month? I'll admit I enjoy a visit to McDonald's once in a while, but after that I'm not sure I'll ever want to eat there again. Which I guess was the whole point of the documentary, so kudos to them!
[V] Highlight of my month: today I opened my work email to see if any of the parents had any doubts with homework or they wanted to schedule a meeting or something, and one of my students had sent me a message saying he misses me. Is that adorable, or what? Oh, those kiddies.
teaching: aww!,
family: religiousness,
teaching: yay!,
