so it's been awhile

as usual, when it's been awhile since i've posted, i like to go with the list format in order to get caught up...

1. donna's visit went great. she missed her connecting flight in paris (her flight out of new york was delayed over an hour on the runway), so she came in on a flight 4 hours later than she should have. flight trouble was something she had a lot of during the trip, as, when she left, she missed her flight because we ran into traffic twice on the autobahn, and this was after leaving an hour and a half earlier than we really needed to because of the regularity of said traffic jams. while she was here we went to nurnberg, strasbourg, and munich for oktoberfest. it was fun. she is thinking about coming back in the spring so we can go to italy and switzerland. oh, on the way home from strasbourg i got the kia up to 125 mph. that is completely legal over here. good motherfucking times.

2. last weekend, we went to paris. william was unable to go because some army shit came up, but the girls and i still went. it was a 6 hour drive, but we stayed overnight, so it wasn't that bad. the city was very beautiful, though dirtier than the cities in germany, which are quite clean. we saw the eiffel tower, sacre coeur, the louvre, the arc de triomphe, and notre dame cathedral. it was a lot of fun. i posted some pictures finally on flickr and on myspace. here's the flickr address if you want to check them out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62864514@N00/. i put them in a paris set, but i will have to wait until next month to post some other pics as i've already reached my limit for this month and don't feel like upgrading to the pro account. the people in paris weren't as rude as i thought they would be either. in fact, i was looking on my map to find sacre coeur and this random french guy approached me and asked me if i needed any help. he didn't speak any english (most people will hear my accent and immediately start speaking in english, which is not a help, oddly enough, when you are trying to become fluent in another language). i'd taken a wrong turn and he pointed us in the right direction. the man was in his late 50's. i don't think the parisians are quite as bad as they are made out to be...

3. this weekend we went to a bigger base so we could check out the new bx (base exchange) and commissary, which made the ones on our base look even worse by comparison. it was nice seeing a full sized store. we didn't buy too much, but we did go to the food court where stella and abby had taco bell for the first time since leaving the states and william and i had popeyes. we got the spicy chicken but, unfortunately, it wasn't spicy at all. oh well.

4. next weekend we are going to zurich, switzerland. it is about 3 hours away from where we are by car. we are only going for a day, leaving at about 5 in the morning on saturday and starting back at about 5. so we should have about 9 hours there, which is a lot. i got the switzerland guide today at the library so i can see what there is to do in zurich. it was between zurich and prague. i think we will do prague the weekend after next. we'll see.

5. not much else is going on. reading, writing, and not doing much else. that isn't entirely true, but whatev, i can say what i want in my journal. halloween is coming up and stella is going to be hermione granger. abby's going to be a witch. that's about it.

army fun, germany, travel, switzerland, france
