Remember
these stories? It almost happened to Emily just now when we took her shopping in Wisma Sanyan. When I read the blog about all the accidents which had happened involving children who wore Crocs, I shuddered because that could have happened to Emily as well. We were going up on the escalators and she was holding hubby's hand. Usually she's quite well-behaved on the escalators but tonight, she suddenly let go of hubby's hand to go up another step. She was leaning across the rail to see a shop down below when it happened. By the grace of God, she managed to pull out her right foot before anything worse happened. Hubby quickly scooped her up and ran a few steps up to get off the escalators. She was crying and I quickly took off the shoe. The shoe was quite mangled and it was blackened by the lubricating oil. The frog jibbit had fallen off in the process and the toes of the shoe were slashed in a few places. The ankle strap was almost severed and there was a tiny scratch at the side of her foot. Writing this entry still leaves me breathless because she could have lost her toes tonight! Emily was crying while we turned her foot round and round to see if there was any injury. Fortunately, she only had a scratch. Hubby put a band aid on it and she soon stopped crying. I was in such a shock that I couldn't say a word. Thank you thank you God for watching over Emily and kept her safe tonight.
In my previous entry, I wrote about getting her another pair of Crocs soon. Now I am not so sure. The shoes are really comfortable and she can walk in them all day long without getting any blisters. Like me, her feet get very sweaty in hot days so Crocs are perfect for her because they are somewhat sweat resistant. I am very worried that this sort of accident will happen again if I let her wear Crocs. Really need to think this through.
More links about crocs-related accidents below. Apparently, they didn't only happen in Singapore but in the States too. So do be extra careful if you have kids who wear Crocs. Carry them when you are on the escalators and never ever let them go near the side.
