Do you have a song that just gets you pumped? As in, you hear the first few bars and suddenly you get really upbeat and in a dancing mood? Because I feel like it, I made a top ten list of my all-time favorite tracks.
In no particular order:
1. Foo Fighters - Generator
From the crazy vox effects on the guitar to the lyrics, I just love hearing this song. I'll even play it again and again without getting tired of it.
2. Orbital - Halcyon On & On
The progression in this track is one of the best I've ever heard. It leads in slowly and builds to an awesome denouement. Simple, but lovely. If I could, I'd wake up to this song every day.
3. Cursive - Bloody Murderer
Despite the death metal-ish title, I like this song for its blatant disharmony. And it even sounds delicious in spite of it.
4. Talking Heads - Girlfriend is Better
The Stop Making Sense version of this song is phenomenal. Great poppy vocals and a beat that just begs for dancing.
5. Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By
I think I like this song mostly because I can sing it decently well. Considering that I pretty much like all Third Eye Blind tracks, that's a good reason to single this one out, if the straight up melacholy-rainy-day tone wasn't enough.
6. Daft Punk - Face to Face
The abrupt and absolutely beastly sampling in this song is what's to love here. A basic rhythm spiced up by sampling that in my opinion is only matched by Sublime. And then there's the vocoder: classic Daft Punk.
7. David Bowie - Rebel Rebel
Really, do you need any explanation? It's fucking David Bowie.
8. Green Day - Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Yeah, it's pop punk... I still think this pair is the highlight of American Idiot. They fit together so nicely I had to include both of them. Boulevard of Broken Dreams occupies the top spot in my "Play Count" list in iTunes.
9. MC Chris - Hijack
There's a reason that MC Chris is best known for this track... it more or less defines his style and is a great track to play at a party to boot.
10. At The Drive-In - Sleepwalk Capsules
Terrific energy and a sweet guitar part make up the bulk of this song. The lyrics also make more sense than other ATDI songs.
