Hello internet! how have you been?
so I have been trucking away on my costume.. which is a good thing because I am supposed to have it finished by saturday night. We'll see how that one goes. But I did get a lucky break yesterday because it was mlk day and I work for the state so I went home and sewed for about 10 hours before my sister showed up again. (she stepped on my plans for sewing all weekend a bit.
What I got done:
I completed the gorilla petticoat last week. Yesterday I finished the skirt with all the ruffle and trim business. I was almost done at one point and decided it needed another panel before I put the ruffle on so I cut it up again and tried again. the extra panel gives it more body and makes it look less like an a line black wear- to the office skirt. Adding the trim made it look finished. I'll post a picture of it soon. But in the mean time here is a gorrilla skirt
and the fabric
I worked on the silk chiffon overskirt, French seamed the pieces together and ran gather stitched along the nice enclosed seams (silk chiffon frays like you wouldn't believe. >.<) Today I plan to trim the bottom with this rope-y trim, put the waistband on and *then* gather it. you see I am afraid of the gathering ruining the lines of the rest of it so I am putting it off to the last moment. We'll see how it works.
I crocheted spider bodies on the train to not-work yesterday (forgot it was a holiday till I showed up and no one was there >.<' ) and my sister helped me put beaded wire legs on them. Tonight I will finish off the creatures with beady eyes, fangs and spinnerets. They will be attached to gloves and a choker.
My edging nightmare: I as you can see in my previous post i wanted to have spiderweb edging on the sleeves and the collar. I attempted to figure out a way to do that out of the chiffon and failed. I came up with an amazing solution yesterday and I have now started to crochet the edging one little web at a time. I did the math and figured out I need about 40 of them. I think I am well on my way with 13 and only one lunch and half a train rides work. The webs will be hand sewed on the edge of the sleeve and the top will be covered with the same trim from the skirt. The bottom of the web will be embellished with pearls and black teardrop black beads. I may run pearls and things between the vertical spokes of the web too, or I may save that detail for a bit later.
What I need to do:
Today I am helping Owen with hid jacket. Hopefully it will not eat up too much of my time. I want to cut out my top pattern with modifications out of lining and have Owen fit it to me. I might put the waist band on the over skirt and start putting on the trim. We'll see how much of that I can do before going insane since I might be able to do it on the machine after some hard-core pinning or I may just hand sew it (after some hard-core pinning.) I want to cut a strip of buckram to make the belt, I already have backing fabric and the front is going to be 2" wide velvet ribbon. The belt endeavor will be a simple one since it's sewing a tube with buckram in it instead of stuffing or body parts or what not. I'm at the end of my work day so I am getting a bit loopy so I will leave it here and try to get some more pictures up tomorrow.
PS: Also soon to come is pictures of Christmas presents and all those crafts I have been neglecting due to lack of camera. I am almost done fixing contrast and such on them and trying to get the colors to look like they do in life, not crappy digital reproduction of life. Let's see how well I do.
