Congratulations! Sounds like you did a great job on your first day! Curious, are there programs/supports in place at the school for the child with behavior problems?

Yes, the school is actually known for fairly extensive services. At the advice of a veteran teacher at my school, I'm going to try some behavior mod techniques with him, and talk to his first grade teacher. Beyond that, the referral goes to the guidance counselor, who I haven't met yet.

but I did have one kid tell me today was the best day of his life, and another one told me that I was not just nice - I was super-nice!!

Do ya one better. Today, I got a new student added to my roster, and when he came in to the room with his Mom, and he wouldn't budge from the doorway. The same kid from the super-nice comment yesterday went up to the new kid and said "Don't worry. Miss L. is really nice. You'll like her."

yay!
