Today was not so good. Well it was good to start with. It got bad around 3:30..... Last weekend was a drill weekend (my first at the reserve unit) and there were some brand new soldiers. I mean Brand New. Haven't been to basic, they just swore in and were assigned to the unit. So my SGT bring the girl, Papson, over to me and tells me I'm going to be her sponsor. It's my job to answer any questions she has, and to help her learn a whole ton of stuff. He's going to check up on me too, at the end of the weekend he's going to ask her a bunch of questions and if she gets any wrong I'm doing push ups. She was so cute too, talking about how she would feel so guilty if I had to do pushups for her mistakes. She pushed herself and learned a lot. We hung out all weekend, and she answered all the questions.
Today I'm working in the office, and I overhear her name on a phone call. I asked what was going on, and the SSG there tells me that she was in a very bad car accident. She's in a comma, and they don't expect her to live....
I know that in this job the death rate is pretty high, but you never really think about it at home... I don't want to become a heartless person, but I don't want to fall apart every time someone gets hurt either...
