A day of old

My birthday was on Wednesday, and I must say it was a truly excellent one.

I felt strange turning 23.  Probably the same way most people feel when they turn 18.  To me, 23 is the age that most people are no longer in college, IE adult.   Feels very odd.

No one at work wished me a happy birthday, but I wasn't upset.  Generics are never as good anyway.  A few memorable wishes: both of my parents called and sang to me over the phone, both of my mother's sisters posted old-school photos of me on fbook along with wishes, I got many multi-lingual wishes, including German, Spanish, French, Swedish, and Dutch.  Rebecca Saunders herself called me before work in the morning just to wish me Happy Birthday :)

In the evening, Julia had planned a small social get-together at her place, consisting of myself, Julia, Brad, Jenna, and Aaron.  I was happy that it was small -- I guess the huge bday parties are something of the past.

BTW -- Julia made a Rubik's Cube cake.  Damn.  It was so tasty and colorful and nerdy: I was thoroughly touched (and so was my tummy).

Brad & Jenna got me a Crock Pot -- an item which I'm certain is only meant for "real" adults.  So I guess we'll have to see how that goes.

All in all, I feel incredibly blessed to have such amazing friends.  Aaron commented that using the term "blessed" seems strange when I don't generally consider myself a religious person -- but I feel as if that word best describes how I feel about my friends.  I never thought that I could have friends that feel so much like family again, and it's nice to have such great relatives so close by.
