Not Another Sam/Daniel Meta! Part 3

Dec 30, 2007 17:43

Sorry I've had to break these up into separate posts.  As I mentioned, the whole thing ended up being 14 pages long (after I tried to shorten it as much as possible... *blushes*), and there would be no way I could include it all in one post.  There are some vague spoilers for Ark of  Truth later on in this post, but hopefully nothing that will ruin ( Read more... )

I have to say I agree. I like the whole Vala thing, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I wonder if it's just because I enjoyed the promise of possibly seeing Daniel happy in a relationship, even if only a relationship that the writers approved of.

I know MS (very early on) said that he found it refreshing that his character wasn't sleeping with someone different each episode, or wasn't being paired up with someone else, but are you telling me it's NORMAL for a man like Daniel, as passionate as Daniel, to not crave some greater relationship in his life? And we never saw that part of him after Need or Past and Present.

And while the relationship between Sam and Daniel was a great focal point for me in the first half of the show, it really did die down after season 7. I liked the Pete relationship (yes, I must be one in a million!) because it let out a side of Sam that we had never seen before. And while Threads gave the impression that she gave Pete up because of the Jack thing (oh, come ON!!) I always thought that there was a lot more to it than that.

Likewise, I can't help but wondering if I only the Cam/Sam relationship as more because of a desire to see a character that I love find some happiness. Even then, I still found it hard to believe that Sam would make the mistake of going for someone military twice.

Finally, (sorry, this has turned into a total rant) my pet peeve. TV shows seem to think that putting 2 characters together in a lasting, meaningful and NORMAL relationship will spell disaster for ratings and the show. That UST and the promise of something is more enticing than happiness in the characters. Which is just crap. Because, if you have spent 10 years getting to know a character, if you really like the show, nothing makes you happier than seeing the people that you admire be finally happy.

Sigh. Apologies. It was going to be a short reply. But well done on the meta. :)

LOL - no worries. I'm glad you like the meta. :)

I know what you're saying. I know people who like the relationships just for the sake of the characters finding happiness. I guess I am way too nitpicky in that I have to judge them by the *quality* of the relationships. And if they're not something I personally like to see, that taints it a bit. Like with what you're saying about Sam/Cam, that Sam would ever try to disobey the military regs.

But anyway... I know what you mean. The Sam/Daniel relationship did seem to die down a bit after S7. They had nice moments of interaction in S8 but most of Sam's interaction was starting to be either with Pete (while I've had a few issues with that relationship I didn't really hate it) or Jack. And then when Sam returned in the 6th ep of S9, it was as if she and Daniel never really got that nice, close rapport back totally.

That's one of my pet peeves too. It seems that every relationship has to be rocky, have sparks flying, or be a "forbidden" relationship to entice lots of viewers. It just seems so cliched to me. And what really gets me is when such "normal" interactions/relationships are deemed sibling-like. 'Cause let's face it - there are plenty of real life siblings who don't have a "normal" relationship and bicker till the cows come home (I know some of them, lol).

And I guess I will end this comment before I rant any further. ;) But thanks for commenting! Again I'm glad you liked it. :)
