Survey says: Idiots should think before pressing send.
Really, people need to know...
... and go back to where they came from. FAR FAR from us.

I quite like our "delusional" state of mind. And no, actually, Sam never said they didn't have a friendship OR romantic feelings when Daniel asked "was there anything between us" - it was the hesitation, the sudden panic and the hope that flashed on Sam's face (bless ya AT!) that said it all - she was afraid to say yes only to have him taken away, or WORSE find out his memories would come back and realize maybe he didn't like/love her the same way.

*pants* IDIOTS!!! The world knows Jack O'Neill... and maybe some didn't see that a RELATIONSHIP with one said Jack was never discussed. And for the record, neither was one between Daniel. That doesn't mean we can't dream our separate dreams.

/rant ;)

And maybe you should also tell them how AT and MS deliberately played up the Sam/Daniel angle in the early seasons. ;)

*grin* now that sounds like a plan ;)

YES! very good add on! also, how the original plan was to have Sam/Daniel as THE ship before TPTB drankk tainted juice and made it Sam/Jack.

Oooh - you are evil... Heh heh ;)

The "are you aware there is even a Jack O'Neill" part is hilarious too... so are they saying that Jack exists only because of the S/J ship? Jack isn't much more than Sam's lover (I thought he was also a soldier, a hockey fan, a Simpsons fan, an astronomy buff, and snarker extraordinaire)?

I guess it depends on who you ask. /snerks/ I wasn't aware he was "attached" to anyone but his job, which, if he "loved" Sam so much he could have left to be with her (legally b/c of the military issue) so many times!! I guess he's a nice prop and that's it. Too bad. The Jack O'Neill I know (and love) is much more then a prop, and much smarter too. I wonder if *they* are aware there is more to their Jack O'Neill...

Well, to be fair to the Sam/Jack shippers, you can also argue that Sam and Jack put their service to their country before any of their own personal feelings. That would make them heroic and selfless and I respect that in the characters :)

Exactly. I think it was a noble thing for Sam to let go of her personal feelings for Jack in 'Grace' and continue to serve. There were many conversations I bet between her and Pete alone about duty vs family. She's a military brat so she understands her duty is to Country first before Relationship. I think some of that got skewed in the early seasons somewhat whit the s/j ship, but she has never let her feelings get in the way of doing her job.

Totally agree with you guys. I know some people have said that they want Sam to be more than the sum of her boyfriends, well Jack is more than the sum of his...girlfriend? That didn't come out right... sum of his relationship with Sam. Or something like that.

And I know that she says something like "what if I leave the airforce" to Jack in Threads but I bet Jack would have been thinking about how much Sam is a soldier and that she wouldn't quit over something like this. It's too important to her.

On the flip side or the coin I know people who think the shippy stuff in S7 and 8 has ruined Sam's character and they think she is a nitwit who is jealous of Daniel for some reason, I think jealous about the rapport he has with Jack (I kid you not, I've seen some people say this). And they say they can see it whenever Daniel would make a point or tell them about a plan of his, and she'd immediately go, "I don't think so."

Hmmm......... I tell ya, it's all complicated. I like to find a happy medium in there.

Okay first - LOL @ those icons... they are perfect for dealing with these people!!! Heh...

I am now realizing why there are so many non-shippers... the whole thing is just so freaking retarded sometimes (though the shippers bug them sometimes too I guess). People like this can make it that way.

The thing that is weird - of all the shippers (and even slashers) I've known it seems that some of the most obsessed and vicious are either D/V or S/J (not saying this is every D/V or S/J shipper, but some of the craziest ones I've seen). I find fans of other pairings to be pretty nice and respectful. Funny how that works sometimes...

Yeah they just keep spreadin' the mantra. If they feel the need to defend it so much it sounds like they're insecure or bitter. Hmm........

And isn't that what fanfic is all about? To bring us stuff that we don't always (or in some cases ever) see in the show? Geez if it's not a pairing you like leave the shippers be and play somewhere else.

/rant off ;)

This sort of stuff is why I remain steadfastly a NOROMO (No ROMance Onscreen), but I'm all for whatever stirs your coffee for fanfic.

It seems like anytime TPTB decide which ship is supposed to be canon, even if it's not outright stated onscreen such as with S/J that could never happen in canon without both of them risking their careers, then the more virulent shippers latch onto this as "proof" of what they want to see, and they're right and anyone seeing anything else is wrongity wrong WRONG.

One reason I usually play in the slasher's end of the pool is there's a lot less chance of their being a "canon fight" over a m/m or f/f pairing. People can still have their OTP, but canon isn't an issue except in a handful of shows. And even then, canon is supposed to be just a suggested guideline for fanfic. *g*

The whole point of fanfic is to create something that might fit in canon, but often doesn't. There are no limits -- no budget to consider, no genre that can't be bent, and you can even pair up characters who don't even appear on the same show -- that's usually why it's so much fun. And when people start acting like it's Very Serious Business that you don't "see" their OTP, then they're not exactly having fun, are they?

I'm pretty much the same way. I don't really ship onscreen and I leave it for fanfic. I just root for the friendship moments (and teaminess) onscreen nowadays.

I've noticed that too. At the con this weekend there were a couple of S/J shippers talking about the fact that Sam had included a photo of Jack in her office in SGA, and that is the "proof" (along with the fact there is a scene that was cut where she mentions something about visiting Washington D.C... but come on, it was cut!).

Exactly - that's what I've always thought about fanfiction and why I have so much fun with it.

I agree with you about the S/J. Someone else once told me that not only is S/J canon, but that it *is* the show (funny, I seem to remember these other characters named Daniel, Teal'c, Janet, Hammond.... maybe I was watching a different show).

And then there was the D/V shipper who kept telling me to open up my eyes to this beautiful relationship. It is sad that people who aren't having fun have to ruin it for those who like having fun.

I hate to break to to those shippers, but there were fans on a set tour who saw Weir's office before it was known for certain that Carter would be replacing her, and they reported seeing pictures of all of SG-1 there. So unless they're onboard with a team orgy... ;)

If S/J is "the show" they must not have much show to watch. If you add up every possible "shippy dippy" moment over 10 years, you probably wouldn't be able to fill up one episode.

The bit that I find hysterically funny is many people who were rabidly anti-S/J and dissing ship in general suddenly changing their tune when Vala showed up. I think it was because they favored Daniel and viewed it as a way for him to be featured, not that "it's different" because neither are military. They're still on the same team in the end, which is what squicks me out about it being any sort of canon.

One show that I think has done a relatively good job of balancing the elements is NCIS, where they write scenes so you can ship that slash any way you'd like. They had some bad bits last year before the head writer/producer was pressured into leaving, but they seem to be ditching any form of canon ship this year.

It's great when I can slash multiple pairings as well as seeing het pairings too, and there's not any more canon behind any one of them than the others and no real sense of "competition" between them. I'm sure there are still fans who go overboard for their OTP, but I haven't really seen them with NCIS.

*snerk* :D Come to think of it I remember reading a report about that. Not only were there pictures of Jack, but I believe also Cassie and Daniel. I missed the season premiere so I don't know if any of them showed up in that episode.

I agree. Even though it seems that a lot of shippy stuff has been crammed into a few episodes, put that all together for the duration of the show and you don't get very much.

I was pretty amused by that. I lurked at this one site in the days of S7 and 8 and remember many people's rabid anti-S/J and general ship talk. They changed their tune when Vala arrived (and I remember the outcry when Sam came back in Beachhead and called Vala the back-up singer. Lots of them were screaming for her head and calling her some very choice nicknames). I've also heard some people have an OT3 of Jack, Daniel and Vala. Which, hey, whatever floats your boat, but it's not for me.

Very good point about NCIS. I think they handle it better on that show too. I've seen sort of the same thing with Supernatural. I've seen lots of fans who slash the brothers, and other fans who will ship them with whomever (Sam/Jessica, Dean/Jessica, Dean/Layla, Sam/Ruby, Dean/Bela, Sam/Sarah, etc.). I don't really ship on that show but I notice that there doesn't seem to be a real sense of "competition" between them either. Then again I haven't been part of that fandom as long as I have Stargate...

Came here by way of moonshadye to drop a word of encouragement. Ignore the idiots. You can ship whoever you darn well please in fanfic. That's the beauty of it! If they don't like it, they can lump it. (Yes, I am twelve when it comes to something like this.) Who do these people think they are? They need to get over themselves.

Seriously.

Thanks for the support. :) I totally agree - some people take this stuff way too seriously. And I guess their screen name (BallBreaker) fits them well.

They're now on my blocked list.
