Last night we were watching TV and
this ipod commercial came on. When it was over Annika remarked that they really shouldn't play that, didn't they know kids were watching? Huh??? Then I realized she meant the last line "Shut up and let me go!", and that at almost 9 yo my baby still thinks "shut up" is profanity. I decided against explaining that "shut up" is only considered a bad word when you're in preschool.
She's been very cautiously experimenting with using the word fuck in conversations with me. Not cursing though. After I stopped laughing about her "shut up" comment she went off on a tangent about how sometimes when Ezzie says "truck" it actually sounds like "fuck"... All the while looking at me to see what my reaction would be when she actually said the word. She tickles me, I don't know where I got this clean mouthed child from. I mean, I do filter my potty mouth around her somewhat, but I've never completely cleaned up my act. When she was a preschooler I was pretty conscientious because I knew she wasn't old enough to know how to filter her words according to the situation and audience, but that's no longer the case.
