That sounds reasonable to me. If it's not on the books themselves (e.g. because people don't want any kind of spoiler), it would be nice to have such reviews/warnings on an online site.
I believe a place with reviews or movie style ratings would be quite a reasonable thing. Like the screen that comes up before movies on HBO. V for violence N for nudity etc.
That was something I was thinking of too the tv/movie rating thing. But that opens up a lot of doors that would hinder publishing (who reviews, time frame to get review before being printed) as well as the book selling industry. (Would certain duplicate sections go to a "behind curtains" area that needs to be policed like the X rated section of a video store?)
Ugh that's true, we don't want censorship of books, just warnings about them.
Maybe a volunteer website similar to rotten tomatoes for movies... Book reports, sort of. I know there are some Christian websites that do that kind of thing for tv, movies, and some books. But those reviews have to come with a grain of salt too.
Well, while I didn't know you were reading these till you were well in, I wouldn't have thought to give you that specific warning.
(I'm also going on the assumption here of warnings from friends, not from publishers/production companies, etc.)
I think maybe someone who has had a similar experience or reaction might think to warn you of it. But if the situation doesn't hit that same resonance for a person, I'm not sure why they would think to say something.
Then again, I'm incredibly self centered, so maybe that's just me.
If there's something that hits that resonance with you, maybe ask when given a recc?
As I've been describing it to others - my mom, a coworker - before I had the reaction I explicitly stated that the series has incest, molestation, rape, various kinds of abuse, and vicious murders.
Yeah, after 36ish hour break I braced myself and dove in, and didn't have the same reaction. It's funny how timing would do that.
Though I was primed based on a comment Amanda made. The anticipation of 'really bad things' colored how I was reading it.
But, I feel a warning could have steeled myself as opposed to be blind sided by the situation. For example, when I read Amityville Horror, I knew that what it was about would raise my hackles, so I made a point to only read it in the day. I would do the same with this book so that my guard won't be down again.

Don't know a practical way to do it though. :/
