Civility

I'm disgusted with this election. Every 4 years we attack one another. Candidates spit vile lies, distort statistics, and interrupt my favorite television programing to tell me how horrible their opponent is.

Whats worse, every 4 years this nation is split in half. 50% of the population thinks that the other 50% of the population is severely lacking in brain cells. "How could they POSSIBLY support that ass" they all demand to know.

Yesterday I removed a long time friend from my myspace page. Big deal I know. I'll add her back after the election. She posted bulletins-- Lots of bulletins- about 4 a day. All lies. All deceptive, hurtful lies about the candidate I support. Comparing him to Lenin and Hitler. Both of those men took power in times of turmoil and did so by promising change. Both led their nations down very dark roads of history. To compare either of out current candidates to those men is simply vile. AND BOTH OBAMA AND MCCAIN ARE TOUTING CHANGE!! It really makes no difference which name you plug in, they could both work in the analogy.

There is a lack of civility. I have seen decade long friendships torn apart because one person thinks that their choice is better than the others and that it is their place to "convert" their friend. It is the same dedication I saw in high school. Friends telling me that I was damned to spend eternity in hell because I had not accepted Jesus as my savior. Failing to read the rest of the rhetoric. Warping the message. I've read the bible. The whole thing. I've also read McCain's policies as well as Obama's. And to those protesters at Lake Eola, I've actually had a conversation with Commissioner Sheehan about the Lake Eola project and its a good deal.

I have never been so grateful for a new job in my entire life. Last week I left OPD and started work for Valencia Community College. I walked into my office and explained to my cubicle neighbor that I do not discuss politics in the workplace. Please dont ask me if I watched the debate, please dont ask me if I voted. Please dont ask me my stance on abortion or taxes. Ask me how my weekend went and what I did. Ask me how my friends and family are doing. The presidential candidates are not sitting around their offices discussing Jessica Eson and her position on taxes. I will pay them the same attention they pay me.

Early voting starts tomorrow. I will be at the election office on Friday, my day off from new job. On Friday I will cast my ballot and the election will be over for me.

And seriously, the election will be over in 3 weeks. The half that lose will lick their wounds, and in 2 years no one will remember who the loser even was. The winner will inherit a mess, they will promise change and yet, nothing will. The president does nothing. The Senators and representatives we keep electing, cannot name and do not care about make all of the decisions and get the work done. The president is simply the fall man.

cynical? Yes. Well-researched? Hell yeah.
