We all went party hopping last night. It started out fun enough - the typical silly friday night drinking amusement. And it seems nearly everyone was having a party in Polo Club last night, which was quite convenient and helped fuel the craziness I'm sure.
All parties start off innocently enough. But things can get pretty down hill from there. As was the case with Matt's. (We tried to clean up the floor as best as we could.) I was drinking, but at the same time trying to stay in some semblance of control. Thanks to Danielle, Lindsey and Neeli for doing the driving thing - I know that can get annoying sometimes.
I had fun last night, don't get me wrong. But I am really feeling my age I think. The days of wanting to get belligerent and crazy have passed me by-(That doesn't always mean that it won't happen, however). It sucks that one of the main ways to meet people and hangout in college is through alcohol soaked parties. I think the highlight of last night was talking to new people and catching up with the old ones. It was nice to meet Dan, Matt's friend. You don't usually find people like him at parties - calm, intelligent, talkative people.
Downtown is one thing, it's little different. The fact that you aren't in someone else's house, worrying about trashing it and that you can dance to put all that alcoholic energy to use makes for a more enjoyable party atmosphere. Even at that though, I'm still not a huge fan of downtown.
I guess I'm just musing. I want to broaden my horizons. This may sound silly, but recent experiences have led me to rethink social interactions. Plus, starting my teaching has given me perspective on how the 'real world' functions. Especially considering as a teacher you are a role model to an extent, and much of college life doesn't lend itself to that.
This is not to say that I won't be getting crazy at formal, because I will. But the days of going out with getting drunk as the ultimate goal are over. It's empty. I should have probably realized this a long time ago, to some extend I did. There are more important, enriching things to do with free time. More enjoyable ways to interact with people.
