It seems like it's been ages since I posted. It hasn't been that long, I suppose, but SO much has happened. It's crazy. After graduation I went back to Wisconsin for a month. Ross was still in school for two weeks which made my life incredibly boring. But I did go to Mad-town and do lunch and a movie with Emma Lou, which was wonderful. Stopped in to see K-borg at work. Not nearly enough time with the girls... I can't wait to see you this summer! I really really hope you come to Chicago!!
Two weeks after I graduated, Ross did. His ceremony was only 25 minutes shorter than ours and they only had something like 340 people graduating, as opposed to our 1600 (?). It was ridiculous. Also, they had a million long speeches AFTER the diplomas were given out. Who wants to sit there after you see the one moment you were actually there for? Not me!
The next week Ross and I had meetings with caterers and tent companies for the wedding. It was kinda of weird, the first one especially. But we got the hang of it, and it ended up being a lot of fun. Later that week, we left for Georgia. Drove for 1 day, spent 3 days there, drove 1 day back. We stayed at Ross's aunt and uncles (with his whole family) because his cousin was graduating high school. The best ceremony EVER. It only took a little over an hour and they had 600 some graduates. That's what I like. We went swimming a lot, which was nice since it was in the mid- to upper 90s, but I got SEVERELY burned...my legs especially. It was quite painful to walk. And I'm still peeling, like 3 weeks later...it's pretty gross.
The week before we left was filled with getting everything together for the big move. More and more seemed to get added to the list each day. Oh, and we basically had to have meals with/visit with every single member of our families before we left. It was crazy, because basically every meal was taken, but I guess that's ok since we got so much free food. :)
The day before we left, Sunday the 10th, we went to Giulia's (the Slocum's foreign exhange student from Germany) graduation at good ol' Whitewater High School. Ridiculous ceremony. There were FIVE valedictorians. Seriously. It was ridiculous. And Dalzin says the names SO slowly. He practically waits for the last person to get off stage before he says the next name. Ross and I hypothesized it was because it took him that long to try to figure out how to pronounce the names.
Monday the 11th we left Whitewater at 5:15am on our way to San Diego. Normally in the car Monkey Cat meows CONSTANTLY, which could get a little old on a 4 day trip, so we got some pills from the vet to calm her down, which we had to shove down her throat. The first day it took about an hour for the pills to kick in, but then her eyes kinda rolled back in her head and she was really unsteady on her feet. It was kinda creepy. But she slept a lot, so that was good. We drove over 700 miles the first day (Ross's car and his dad in the U-Haul) and stopped in North Platte, NE. The second day we made it to a little south of Provo, UT. Utah is absolutely gorgeous, by the way. If you ever get a chance to drive through it, you totally should.
The third day we thought we'd make a shorter day and only drive 5 hours to Vegas and then spend some time there. With the Uhaul (pulling a trailer with my car on it), we could pretty much only stay in suburban hotel parking lots so there was enough space. We were having trouble finding something, so we decided to keep going to Primm, NV, 1 mile from California. We stayed at a casino/hotel called Whiskey Pete's. Ridiculous. But the rooms were only $30 a night, so that was good. The tricky part, though, was getting Monkey Cat inside. We had to sneak Monks into the hotels every night since it was so hot out, and there was no way she could stay in the car. This wasn't a problem at most hotels, since we could just go in a back door. To get to our room at Whiskey Pete's, however, you had to walk through the casino to get to the tower of hotels. I wrapped her in a very suspicious looking bundle and held her tight hoping she wouldn't squirm too much. We walked right by the securty guard station, but no one said anything. I felt like a spy. It was quite hilarious. Also, this place was white trash heaven. So much so that Giulia was scared to get into the hot tub with Ross and I because of the other people there.
We made it to San Diego the 4th day around 12:30, got everything unpacked from the U-haul and the truck dropped off. We've spent the last week unpacking and building our furniture (we bought everything in boxes and brought it out that way so it'd be easier to pack). We went to get our CA drivers licenses and titles/registration on Monday. My car passed the emissions test! Yay! I was worried I was going to have to pay quite a bit to have it fixed. Oh! And I didn't get a single question wrong on the written test! Sweet! Ross didn't pass the first time and had to take it again. But he got it the second time. So, our licenses are in the mail and we have CA plates.
GOOD STORY: That in caps, since this is ridiculously long and people probably won't even read it. We built our dining room table and chairs on Tuesday, so we had our first family dinner at the new table. I was telling Ross how nice our family dinner was and he said that the whole family wasn't there. So we yelled at Monkey Cat (who was sleeping by the balcony) that it was family dinner. She walked over and jumped up onto the chair in between Ross and I and sat there the rest of the time we were eating. It was AMAZING. I've got pictures. They'll be up on facebook. I seriously have the best kitty cat EVER.
ok, so this is super long already. I have work stuff to write about, but I'll put that in another entry, since I don't think anyone will actually read this one anyway. Love you all!
