Inset day - a teacher's dream. A day of planning. No kids. And you get paid to be there.
Something happened though to make me reflect on the cultural differences between our two island nations.
Someone left a tap running in the staff loo this morning. I tried to turn it off but nothing happened. Being the water-conscious sort that Beattie's four minute eggtimer has taught me to be I went to the office and asked the receptionist if she'd call the caretaker. She looked suitably concerned that this was a Problem and said she'd get right on it.
Half an hour later I went back to the loos (lol I'd left my keys there) and the tap was still running. It was running until the caretaker made it across campus at morning tea - an hour and a half later...
...how much water do you think went down the drain in that hour and a half?
My drought-ridden soul shudders to think.
Meanwhile - my recycling wasn't collected with the rubbish rubbish bin. And they don't collect empty bottles - you have to take them down to the bottle bank. This makes me a bit embarrassed bc after last weekend I have quite a stash and don't know if walking down the road with my little treasure trove a-clinking in plastic costcutters bags is really the done thing for the new teacher. Maybe I'll just subtly slip one in next door's rubbish ever week or so...
