but I digress...

I've been thinking (seriously, don't die of shock) lately about the whole immigration controversy. First of all, no matter what side of the fence you are standing on (pun intended) I don't think that hateful remarks are necessary. The next time I hear someone say, well go back to your own country, this is America! I'll probably go all Tom Cruise on their ass. I find it a source of endless amusement on top of disgust that these people get so cruel. I've also noticed that this country feels that way about homeless people too. Bastards. So what do I think?

First of all, the truth of the matter is, you are illegal immigrants and with that comes a natural set of difficulties. I agree that we are built on immigration but this country will never look favourably on illegals and really what country does? I don't like the anomosity of other countries because we don't open the flood gates and let everyone in. I think that overall we are pretty welcoming...or we were before the Bush administration. Think about countries like Ireland! No one gets in THAT place...and comes out alive!!! (Sorry I had to.) What I'm saying is, we can't prevent you from sneaking in but at the same time you can't expect to not live with the possibility of being caught and deported.

Second, come on in! I love that we have such a diverse population. I know people are all kinds of pissed that so many people speak Spanish but, you know, so what. You know, in Switzerland they speak German, French, Swiss and Swiss-Deutsch. Deal with it. I don't like going to a store and not being able to get my point across in my own language but that is not the fault of the immigrants. (This is also a good reason to avoid places like Walmart and McDonalds.) The idiots that hire someone who doesn't speak English to help customers deserves whatever circle of hell they end up in. I do think that you should learn English but I also don't hate the integration of Spanish into our lives. Woo-hoo cultural diversity!

Third, can I get off this ride?! Just kidding. Okay, the wall. What the fuck? Have we suddenly become Imperial China and need to protect ourselves from the Huns? This is the 21st Century! I really do think that all this talk about a wall is really the penultimate (god I love that word and I love using it incorrectly) level of ridiculousness that has characterized this administration and that is including the freaky save prayer in our schools e-mails I get from my grandma. It sounds like something Billy-Bob and his brother/father-in-law Jimmy-Don would do to keep out those damn coyotes! Yee-haw we gonna build dat der wall!

Fourth, the protests. Again I'm a bit torn about this. On one hand I'm a total feminist/vegetarian/pinko-commie/long-haired hippie and so the thought of a protest fills me with glee. However, all this seems to be doing is generating more fodder for ridicule. As a friend of mine (who happens to disagree with me because she is a capitalist pig-much love Jess♥) mentioned that the only thing different was that there was less traffic. Not a great statement methinks. I know that many of you hold jobs and most definitely ones that no American would stoop to but you are also illegal. Illegal is illegal and you can't demand rights because by definition you don't have any in this country. That's the honest to god, totally fucked up truth. Not that I have a better idea but I think that not opening yourselves up to ridicule is a good start. I'm totally the silent revolution type person and so I'm not good at being all in-your-face and militant but sometimes that's not the way to go...ya know. What's that Michael Jackson song? I'm looking at the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to change his waaaaaaaayyyyys... Everybody! This is a great way to end my rant, with a little pre-freaky MJ!

Now all of these opinions are mine and you don't have to agree with me. I will still love you. *smootchies*
