okay, so my roommate and i donated our hair, and i had a fab time in new york... all in about two weeks.
look:
sara and me before our haircuts.
ps, this entry is HUGE.
my short hair.
ahh new york... this is the oyster bar where my dear holden caulfield lingered at grand central.
i had taken the train up to grand central after spending the morning eating breakfast with laura, watching 30 rock and then shopping (!) with dan. i figured i should go, since i had never been there and because it is remotely closer to the bronx than soho, and katie was coming to meet me. i ventured up to the street, went to sephora and stood on the street looking at the chrysler building .
that night we ate at dan's resturant, public, and it was DELICIOUS. we had all sorts of interesting appetizers (anchovie, kangaroo and pig cheek... but all in separate dishes) and then katie and i shared the lamb special of the night for dinner.
the next day, laura and i had lunch with julianna and josh at a little mexican place in brooklyn. it was also delicious. we then met up with katie, picked up some snacks and went to bj's to wait for him and jenna to come home from the airport.
the biggest twizzlers.
after they got in, we headed to anna maria's in williamsburg for EXCELLENT pizza. and once we got home, bj started making drinks for jenna, me, and katie (who NEVER drinks) and we had a goofy night. katie got sick twice, jenna got tired, and i got silly... especially after dan got home from work, katie and jenna were asleep, bj was on the phone, and dan and i had nothing to do but entertain each other. it was great.
dan and bj's enormous apartment. this is it... plus the bathroom (see below).
(i don't remember taking this!)
saturday morning, we got up and had breakfast in soho.
and katie wore bj's old pants all day so that she wouldn't have to go up to the bronx before we started our day in manhattan. that's why she looks out of sorts.
we decided to go to the cooper-hewitt, and on the way, we ducked into the guggenheim to take some pictures.
and i glimpsed this AMAZING piece of work:
awesome.
the cooper-hewitt was showing an awesome exhibit by ingo maurer, and i took pictures until i found out that it was FORBIDDEN.
BEAUTIFUL.
next, we headed downtown through central park, and took advantage of photo ops for lucretia joyce's calendar.
while we were walking and talking, bj messed up a sentence meaning to say "phone," or "telephone" but instead, just said "tele..." and i said, "phone or vision" and he said, "fuck you, maybe it was gram". then he started ending every sentence with "stop" which didn't let up for awhile that day, and was still happening sporadically throughout conversations this week.
for mom.
cleopatra's needle
my favorite statue in the park.
katie and hans christian anderson reading the ugly duckling.
seriously.
then we ate lunch at the carnegie deli - AWESOME.
ps, katie and i split the open-faced reuben. YUM.
and we got cheesecake. i want to live in their cheesecakes... they are SO delicious.
after that, we headed to times square,
and studied my box.
probably the best picture of the trip.
SPECIFICALLY FOR MATT:
look! it's tad in front of tad's steaks! fucking tad...
that night at the hershey store, jenna pointed out some camoflauge wrapped kisses, to which katie exclaimed, "we could take those camping! then the bears wouldn't see them!" the fucking funniest.
that night, laura, katie and i spent the night at katie's in the bronx (slumber party!). we watched some youtube of P0YKPAK, ate some icecream and had a good time all around.
the next day, katie and i met bj and jenna at the met, and left almost immediately. it was SUPER packed. so, then we decided to go to the world trade center (which was overwhelmingly sad... and it hit me out of nowhere. it was a good place to just meditate a little bit.)
next we headed south and rode the staten island ferry:
and everyone LOVED it.
while we were waiting to board, bj and i saw a pigeon jump into a drinking fountain and he said, "wild birds teabag all of the drinking fountains in new york city" which i then accidentally text messaged to my cousin in portland.
then, after katie told us that staten island is inhabited mostly by conservative republicans and once attempted to secede (from ny... the us... who knows??), bj said, "staten island is a conservative chach nation." which was true.
afterwards, we went to chinatown and katie and jenna ducked into one of the shady little shops to get a coach purse for jenna and to look for a chanel for sara. jenna lucked out, but sara didn't (that day). next, we headed to a delicous place in chinatown for dinner. service was TERRIBLE. and then we headed back to brooklyn.
the next day, jenna, katie, laura, and i went back to manhattan to meet dan, rachel and elliott for brunch... at 1pm (!). we ended up eating at a coal oven pizza place. it was good, but nothing to rave about.
then, rachel took us to bloomingdales in hopes to not have me go over to the west village to get a wallet for melissa, but no luck.
we then headed to chinatown where katie and laura found a purse for sara, and this:
in the back of a fucking VAN.
at least it's real:
PSYCH.
anyway, then we went to mark jacobs. i loaded up.
we hung out in brooklyn again that night, and jenna and i drank again that night, and laura supported me in writing out drunken messages on postcards (which are still in my bag! oops!). much later in the night bj led jenna and me back up to public to meet up with dan and rachel, and we got tacos at this late night place in soho, and it was awesome.
the next day, dan took jenna and me back into williamsburg and we got pizza from anna maria's again. it was great. then we packed up and hopped the train to jfk. jenna's flight was about 4 hours before mine, so i had to spend the majority of my day at the airport, but that resulted in me reading the majority of SLAM by nick hornby (my favorite author) which i finished it yesterday... not great, but an okay read.
on the flight home, the woman in the next row puked for about 5 minutes straight... which was FANTASTIC. i just sat with my hoodie covering my face and my tila tequila cranked up in my ear to try to block out the incident... then mtv went out on the flight, so i watched the end of edward scissorhands including
the ice dance... the best part of that movie.
and then baz luhrman's romeo and juliet was on. i feel like i need to watch it again now that i'm not a fifteen year old kid who loves leonardo dicaprio and claire danes (because she was angela, duh).
then i was back to ohio. THANK GOD... oh wait, i mean... i should move soon.
hahahahaha.
what a great trip. sorry this entry is ALL OVER THE PLACE. but... fuck it.
thanks friends!!
