I am going over to Stony Stratford in a few weeks time and I was given a link to a tourist information site about the town. I was astounded to read, amongst other 'legends' the following...
".......house from which the much-maligned Richard, Duke of Gloucester, abducted the royal twins before taking them to The Bloody Tower"
Eh? What? Royal TWINS! Where did the writer pluck that one from. It was ONE boy..Edward V. His brother Richard Duke of York (two years younger than Ed) was with his mother Queen Elizabeth Woodville in sanctuary at Westminster where they had been almost from the moment his father, Edward 1V had died. He joined his brother in the Tower a few days later.
Why can't the people who write tourist guides get their bloody historical facts right? Why don't they do a little bit of research before mis leading the public with this kind of rubbish? How hard can it be.
This sort of mis information makes me, as someone who has read extensively about the 'Cousins War', downright cross. It's just not necessary to write garbage like this when there is so much easily accessible information at our fingertips nowadays.
I remember a year or two ago on the anniversary of Anne Boleyn's execution (19th May) telling my young niece to mention the fact to her teacher. She did..bless her. And what did the teacher say..'well done, Katie have an extra house point for knowing that'. No. She told this nine year old girl that she was wrong..it was the 12th of May. Grrrrrrr! I was hopping mad and wanted to go to the school, sit that teacher down and give her a lesson in Tudor history.
I give up. Have a good day, all.
