to the sea

Well hello hello :)

I think a real update is long overdue. I love looking back at my journal over the years and seeing what I was doing on this date or that date, and if I don't update soon I will wonder what this big blank spot in my life was all about. Truth is, it is far from being a blank spot. I have been incredibly busy of course with work and school (as always) but this year has felt a little different. I feel like I am finally where I am suppose to be, in a place that is stable, in a school that is actually working out for me. The summer has been beautiful and I have spent time in DC, Baltimore's inner harbor, Annapolis, and of course out on the boat for days on end with future trips in the Bay already planned. All the while staying on the top of my game at work, and maintaining a 95% in my Physics II summer class with only the final left to take (next week). That class has been a true test of my academic confidence. I went in scared and with little hope, definitely not looking forward to 4.5 hour long classes twice a week, right smack in the middle of my summer. It's fascinating that the term not only flew by, but I have made new friends and a completely unexpected love for Physics. Okay maybe not love, but minor interest nonetheless :)

Yes, hours upon hours were spent studying in libraries and bookshops and cafes, on campus and off campus, in groups and alone... but to someone with a true love of learning, studying is quite rewarding, especially when practicing self discipline pays off in A's in a class you thought you'd be lucky to score a C- in. In other words, I'm a nerd :)

Right now there is no boy in my life. I'm still getting over the pain of my last boyfriend because instead of breaking up like normal people we kind of fizzled off into that incredibly informal friends-with-benefits (?) thing. It sucks because my family really liked him but he went off with another girl by this point. So sad! Anyway I have asked for him back but he said no, so now I just have to let fate do it's thing. I look at the situation and laugh because he is a fool for the choice he has made, but I can't say I didn't give him a chance! :) There are lots of new chapters coming up in my life that deserve my attention, and I am like a clean canvas of a person waiting to meet someone fresh and new. Who knows who he will be? All I know is that I'm done this trail-and-error BS, and I'm also done online dating :P More stories there than could fill a whole book.

So the rest of my summer will unfold like this:
Finish this Physics class, and register for Full time Fall semester in Philadelphia
Continue work at my nice bank job for money
Take Caitlin to Boston to celebrate her Bday and wedding party
Caitlin's wedding, where I'm the Maid of Honor :)
Get an apartment in Philly

Fall:
Apply for jobs in architecture firms
Study abroad in Greece :)

Life is good. I also want to say that I have been reading a lot and spending a lot of time doing yoga and being with my family. The books I have read this Spring/Summer are:

The Architecture Reader - Braziller
Life is Elsewhere - Kundera
Eat Pray Love - Gilbert
A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bryson
The Republic - Plato

For music, I have been listening to the new The National album and also Josh Ritter.
Hope everyone has a lovely night <3
