Thursday, after getting my car out of the shop with the idea of it being fixed, I made my way to Santa Cruz. But when I got to Watsonville.. the car died AGAIN. Luckily it had not stopped in anything so bad as a busy intersection or things would have gotten rather hairy. But Pandora (that's my car) was able to limp the rest of the way there. I can't even begin to tell you how worried and frazzled I felt. But one look at that little house and knowing that my best friend was in there waiting for me made it a lot less painful!
I showered and put on my Agent costume, in preparation of seeing The Matrix in Downtown Santa Cruz. For a rather simple affair, I looked pretty good. Sydney though... she was decked out in the finest example of Trinity since Trinity herself! Pants that almost made me keel over from their awesome-ness, a corset that she made herself, and the perfect long trench coat to make you wish you had taken the red pill. She insisted on photographic evidence of the corset, and I did my best to take pictures, but uh, my hands had a hard time keeping still. Yeah, that's it.
We went to the show, met up with Jerry, Sophie (omg YAAAAY SOPHIE), and Travis while taking more photos in the parking lot. Then we headed over to the theatre, met up with some more folk including our buddy Al (AKA Captain Jack Sparrow). MORE PICTURES, including fight scenes, holy cow. =3
The movie was awesome, of course, but sadly we were stopped in our RockyHorror-like antics of talking and shouting at the screen because some of the jerks around us actually wanted to watch the movie! As if anyone there hadn't seen that movie before. =/
BUT! We did get a few jabs in, and even I got in a line that had folks giggling. I have my moments.
After that, we went to Saturn's for food and drinks. Just FYI, organic beer is REALLY GOOD. =3 Anyway, about 15 of the 20ish people went there, and we joked about the movie, took more pictures, played telephone around the table("I didn't do it, you didn't see me do it... POTATO POTATO POTATO!"), got water spilled all over me ("well look, now you ARE all wet"), Sydney told folks about how we met at a FURRY CONVENTION, of all places (fun story that, which always makes me grin rather proudly). Most importantly, I got to snuggle up to some very attractive, friendly folks. My feelings weren't hurt too badly that certain honey sticks did not make it to the show because of this. Though I expect them later! In a bear trap of some sort. =3
Around 2 am, we head back for a 5 hour nap, shower, and give the Lady Tiger her hug, kiss, snuggle and scritches goodbye, thinking that I wouldn't see here till Saturday. I go take my car in to a Midas shop that she recommended, where I was floored by the friendly personalities and great service. MUCH better than the one I took my car to originally. They figured out the problem in about 3 HOURS, as opposed to 3 DAYS. Seeing as I was waiting for awhile, I used their internet access (which was free, how awesome is that?) and told Sydney what was going on. Apparently she was going to be in that same shop getting her oil changed, so we ended up meeting again for some lunch at good ol Charlie Hong Kong's. She showed me the actual music she would be performing on Saturday, and practiced on me, as well as just friendly, mindless sort of chitchat that I have grown to really love having with her. It's so NICE to have women friends. =3
Finally, car fixed and ready to go, I head out to San Jose to stay with Jason, a friend of Sydney's and an all around good guy. Sadly, I got there around 7, and he didn't get off work till about 11... so I took a little walk, got a cheap but tasty cigar, drew some, wrote some, and listened to the opera music CD Sydney gave me. This particular CD featured the songs she would be singing the next day, and I felt it would be nice to give her an actual critique on her piece, if she should ask. Of all the good things that she has given to me, it was the least I could do! Finally, Jason let me in, and I crashed almost immediately.
Saturday! Got all dressed up and headed out to see Sydney sing. Devin was back (YAY DEVIN), and we caught up, and a nice fellow by the name of Jonathan hung out with us a bit, waiting for the actual show to start. What can I say? Among other things, I liked his beard, so sue me. ;P
Sydney was completely MARVELOUS, as we knew she would be. She sang two pieces, and everyone agreed that her last piece, Ebben, Ne Andro Lontana was a moving, powerful piece. I freely admit that I teared up at the end. You think I would know to bring hankies with me by now...
There were a few other singers that also made my eyes pop. I love the ones that really make you want to sit up and WATCH them sing, and the ladies certainly made me pay attention.
There was an insignificant little rabbit there, of which I would have liked to have chewed up and spit out, but I was told to behave, and I did. -_-
Finally, myself, Sydney, Devin, Jerry, and a nice guy named Oliver went out for a bit of shopping and sushi in Japantown. Jerry had brought Syd Flowers, Devin got her chopsticks for her hair, and I got her a rather... fun picture to put up in her room. Apparently she has a gift for me, but forgot to bring it.. sooo I guess next visit I'll get it. Maybe the honey sticks? ;)
Sushi was fun, everyone got along and we had a good time reenacting scenes from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", seeing as one day, Sydney will in fact dress like Jessica Rabbit:
"I hit him over the head with a frying pan and threw him in the trunk. You know, so he wouldn't get hurt."
"A better lover than a fighter, huh?"
"You better believe it, buster."
She also sang the song that Mrs. Rabbit performed at the Ink and Paint Club, where I was fortunate enough to be the stand in of the private detective who, at the end of her performance, gets yanked up by his tie and is mere centimeters away from her face.
....I think I would make a pretty good Eddie Valiant, what do y'all think? XD
A few hugs and kisses later..... well then I headed back! I had a good time and a nice break from Fresno... which is getting harder and harder to call home. All the fun places, activities, friends and loved ones that I miss so much are pulling harder and harder on that little red string around my heart. And with little hesitation, I admit that one of the driving forces, one of my best unkept secrets is the absolute love and affection I have for my dear friend, Sydney. I mean if it wasn't for her, the ocean would hold only bitter memories. I would still be languishing over old lovers. My eyes would be shut tight to the wonders of this world through art, music, and indescribable beauty. I would not be the slightly snarky but cheerful half-Dyke that I am today. Most importantly, I wouldn't know what love and true friendship could be like, wouldn't know what it was like to truly be myself, if it wasn't for her. . .
....Oh, and lets not forget that she has made a fabulous dresser out of me. ;)
One day, one day... I hope to really come home.
As for today? It's hot and muggy as all hell, and the electricity went out at my grandpas house. ARRRGH. So I am at the furry house, not dying of heat stroke. =/
I have some poetry I will be putting up on Deviantart today... incase any of you are actually interested.
