So I talked to the principals today and they said I should plan on being here through next week - meaning until the end of the school year! I have this feeling they are going to fire the guy and they are kind of waiting until the end of the year since now its so close to being over. The kids were really happy to hear that I would be here all of next week too. Both my 6th grade band class and my 7/8 band class made me these giant cards, however the HS band kids made sure to tell me they still won because they gave me a card and a cake : - ) It is so fantastic to feel appreciated. Even though I love to teach its still scary when I go teach because you never know what will come your way and you are having an impact on the next generation. However at the end of the day, when I'm relaxed I look back on all the great things that happened that day and how great the day was and then I'm happy that I was there. Dont get me wrong, things arent always perfect, like my 6th grade class. They are a tough bunch of kids but I still love them. I'm so greatful that I've gotten this opportunity (for the second year in a row! - everyone says if you can come in as a long term sub at the end of the year, you can easily make it through a whole year without a problem). I really hope that it leads to something permanent because I really like the kids and the small town environment. Today I witnessed the senior assembly and the moving of the Juniors from their section to the senior section. It was a pretty cool thing. Also the seniors go through the gauntlet where they hug and shake hands with all the HS teachers. I never thought small town would be for me but it seems pretty neat. Its a completly different environment from Seattle (really the only place I've been other than college) and its pretty cool. I like that the teachers know all the kids and that the principals even know all the kids. I just hope that something works out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! but trying not to get my hopes up too high. In the meantime I need to get back on that job hunt now that the year is coming to a close. I hear that there is an elementary position in West Seattle for Seattle public schools. A full-time gig starting 4th and 5th graders. Something to think about and look into . The teacher I taught for in January, he called me to let me know about it so I'll have to see what I can find out.
Anyway I guess thats about it. TOmorrow is graduation, which the band is playing at and I have a feeling I wont stay for the whole thing. I only have 5 kids that are graduating and I've only had them for a month and I dont do well at these things, I'm bound to cry and thats no good. Plus the principals know I go home and Friday and told me it would not be an issue for me to leave after the band plays to go and catch the boat. We'll see.
