Well, I had a learning experience this weekend - I learned how long cast iron actually takes to cool down. The answer: a really long time. Which, unfortunately, meant no shoe-shopping for me. So at my next opportunity (which will probably be this weekend) I will try again. And this time I need to go in search of another black skirt as well.

I really need to start recording myself in practice sometimes; I think I tend to get so focused on my practice method that I forget to listen to myself to figure out ways to improve. This is so important since I don't have a teacher right now; I don't just want to stagnate.

I taught a first lesson yesterday; he's 17 or 18. I was really pleasantly surprised at how much he knew - he got a 5 on his AP Theory exam, so I don't have to worry about him understanding the theory behind things, we can really focus on technique. He had started looking at the Faber adult book, and I explained to him that the way method books work is that they introduce a concept and then have a couple of pieces for you to practice this concept. So there was no need for him to practice pieces for which he already understood the concept. I think he was surprised that that meant that we could skip all the way up to page 122. So we're going to jump straight into scales. My only worry, which I discussed with him beforehand, is that we both know that he is really talented but a slacker, but since he wants to be a music ed. major, and he seems to be genuinely interested in piano, I think he might be ok.

Community Chorus will be interesting this semester. It will be interesting to see how they respond to her, since she is clearly used to teaching younger kids.

I look forward to Tuesdays and not at the same time. I teach from 3P-8:15P with one 15 min. break. That's a long time. It's very draining.

Well, I just finished lunch, so back to work!
