I've heard this sentiment plenty of times from people - "I used to really like that song, but then it was overplayed." I can't say that I understand it. I might become bored with a song temporarily if I've heard it a lot recently, but even so, if I liked it before, I probably still like it. I just don't want to hear it this minute. Even less understandable are the few times I've heard someone say something like, "Well, I liked it, but then every else liked it, so I don't anymore." Not a single version of that sentiment makes sense to me.
But now a story. On Day 2, my dear friend reminded me of a song that would fit here. My college roommate and I had a bit of a motivation problem. For various reasons, not all of them typical, we didn't sleep much at night. We were also both majoring in math, and I have a feeling that most people would agree--it isn't easy to make yourself do Calculus while sleep deprived.
One evening, or maybe it was morning, who knows? Days and times kind of blurred together when half the time we were sleeping in the afternoon. Anyway, we were searching for songs to motivate us. This was pre-YouTube, so.. well, you understand. I was trying keywords like "
Motivation". Yeah.. that song doesn't help at all. Then, in a moment of silliness, expecting no hits at all, I tried "Math". To my surprise and delight, there's a song called, "The Math"!
Wonderful! Perfect! Love it! Then I downloaded and we listened to it.
Oh, and here's something else I used to do in college--backdate my LiveJournal entries because I meant to make them the day before. It's actually noon on the 15th right now...
