SO WE JUST GOT BACK YESTERDAY FROM EASTER ISLAND. IT WAS AMAZING. I´M TOO LAZY TO PUT UP ALL OF THE PICTURES SO HERE´S JUST A FEW:
Madelaine, Eliza, and me right after arriving.
Mike and Madde
View from our cabin.
The island has 4,000 inhabitants. This is the main street...no joke.
After putting our stuff in the hotel we went and ate lunch. Here´s the view from the restaurant.
Here´s a man playing bass.
Liza.
Madelaine in front of our new friends. The islanders were incredibly welcoming. They say they´re sick of seeing the same people every single day and they always try to get to know the foreigners who come in.
That night we went to a dance show. It reminded me of the dances we saw in New Zealand back in the day...except this time there were like 30 people in the crowd and that´s it.
One of our counselors dancing.
Mike.....trying to dance....it was classic.
Me and Mike the next day.
Madelaine and the pipe thingy that sprays up water. Obviously I forget what it´s called.
The entire group.
Liza and me.
The most amazing lunch in the most amazing spot ever...
The beach at Anakena.
Ahh sideways picture.
This rock is called the bellybutton of the world. Apparently you touch it and can feel it´s energy. I didn´t feel anything though...but I still made the 3 wishes you´re supposed to make.
Griff and I made a friend.
So there used to be this contest. Once a year this special species of bird comes to the island and lays an egg on that small rock. The contest was: The men who wanted to participate would jump off the cliff into the water (where there are sharks) and whoever retrieved and brought back the egg undamaged would be king for a year.
And this is where they slept. They stayed outside during the day since the weather is generally warm all year round with tropical rains that only last 30 minutes or so.
I was too lazy to get up and take a picture so I just stuck the camera in the air behind me without realizing Madde was behind me changing. Those crazy Swedes.
A little store on the main street.
Waiting for our flight at the aiport. Easter Island only flies to Santiago and Tahiti. It was so awesome watching the plane land right in front of us. Overall it was a great trip. I can´t believe I´m home in exactly 3 weeks.
