Getting the green light

I had my six-week postpartum appointment today with Dr. Berry. I'm all healed up and lookin' good! Penelope had just woken up from a nap when it was time to go, so she was alert--and cranky about being in her car seat as soon as we got to the doctor's office. So the nurses held her and played with her while I met with the doc. They told me how cute she was when they handed her back.

I told the doc I don't want hormonal contraceptives, and she told me how great it was that I had lost so much weight but cautioned me about the ice cream ("food won't be free forever"), and I cleared up some billing questions with the clerk, and then I left. So that's that. Nine months of going to that place once a month, then twice a month, then every week, and sometimes a few times a week, and now it's all over. Everybody knows me there, and they all got to meet Miss Penelope, the whole point of that whole crazy series of appointments, and now... it's all done. I've had my first child. You never have your first child again.

I'm kind of sad!
