Robin McKinley's Beauty (I know I spelled her last name wrong)
The reason is its a retelling of my favorite fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, but its told from a different way. Beauty got her name as a joke, she's not a beautiful princess type, she's a bookworm who is plain. She's smart and strong willed. Her family isn't filled with mean sisters, they just have fallen on hard times.
The world the book is set in is expanded more than the fairy tales and the Beast's castle is just as magical with a library containing books from the future such as sherlock Holmes and others.
Its an awesome read, I've probably read it ten times over the years and it never gets old.
