Newlyweds

So, no writing progress was made yesterday. But, my very dear friend, Drie, and her husband of 3½ months, Brian, who live in a suburb of Detroit, came to visit me yesterday.

I spent a little under 2 hours talking to them when they were in my home-ish-town where my mom still lives. Then, last night they drove to Missoula, where I live now, to stay with me. It was wonderful.

We played What Would Jesus Do. Yes, I know, even amongst Christians that phrase has largely fallen out of fashion. But it’s a wonderful game to play if you’re getting to know someone. The object of most of it is to guess which A, B, or C given solutions the other players would choose to a hypothetical problem. While I superficially said that I liked Brian from having met him previously on the weekend of their wedding, and from the few hours of talking last weekend, I really like him after hearing his response to some of the tougher issues which  you just don’t normally bring up in polite conversation.

I heard him talk about his priorities with work vs. family and how his faith tied into those things. I didn’t 100% agree with everything he said. But hearing him honestly respond to tough questions with a heart that had it’s priorities straight I liked him. I also watched him disagree with his wife and argue with his wife, being completely respectful but never a pushover. If it were in my nature, I would be jealous.
