varkat is running a really cool contest to win cool stuff over at her

Also, I've written 900 words today and am trying to get 1,300 more before I leave to have lunch with my sister around 2:00. Creation myths, even when they're parallel to your own, are actually kind of tricky to write. Creation myths are necessarily aetiological (which in mythology refers to a myth that explains the causes of things, as in, there is winter because during the half of the year that Persephone is in the underworld with her husband Hades, Demeter--goddess of the earth, mother of Persephone--is grieving*). Ergo, I feel like I have to be choosy about the details I put in, but also want my myth to be substantial enough for my characters to recall well and to have some influence upon them as well.
*Because of actual weather patterns in Greece, most mythology scholars now believe this is one of the least applicable interpretations of this myth, but I didn't want to bore you with something too obscure.
