Writing: I’ve decided (with the 10% reserve to change my mind) to go ahead and research Neoptolemus even though I’m writing him in a short story. I found five good articles which I’m going to print out today and have requested three more from ILL (Inter Library Loan).

Slightly irritating thing about ILL? I had requested an article for another project/class three weeks or more ago, and discovered when I went back yesterday that they’d neglected to notify me when they canceled my request. I had to search even to find the request. It says I need to contact Library Staff. ::Sigh::

Classics Club met last night. Life of Brian is quite funny. Quite funny. The bit where the Centurion makes Brian fix his grammatical errors in the graffiti? FRICKIN’ Hilarious! It’d be funny even if you knew nothing about Latin , but being in a third-year Latin class and watching it with a room half full of students and a professor who also read Latin was fabulous! I’m used to having Christianity insulted/irreverenced by Ye Olde Flying Circus; what I was not prepared for was the scene where Brian is told he is half Roman only to insist that he is ‘Jewish’ using every racial slur for said ethnicity/race I’ve ever heard and several come across before. This was particularly hard for me not even so much because I identify with the Jewish part of my heritage but because our definitely Jewish adviser was still with us watching the movie at that point. Said adviser had seen the movie before and told me it was funny, so I doubt he was terribly offended, but still. We had several new people come, more than half of whom were interested in coming back and I may yet talk them into taking Latin next year (they’re going to start calling me Socrates for all of the youth I’ll corrupt in my position as Consul).
