So. I had a tea party with my Latin/Petronius class. Fun was had by all. I wasn't surprised that my 21-ish-year-old classmates were super-psyched by the variety and quantity of food I brought to class. College kids like to eat, particularly when someone else is cooking/buying. I know this because I am one and I like these things. The parts where Greer (whom I like but don't know at all well) was thrilled by the idea of cucumber sandwiches (which she'd never had before. Are those really such a rarity?) and said while rubbing her hands excitedly together, "Jessica, may I just say that you are a goddess among women**?", those parts were delightfully surprising. Also surprising and nice was the part where my 35-ish-year-old professor, who is himself quite the chef and likely even more the connoisseur, was impressed with the quality of the food. Funny was the part where I explained the tradition of having a tea party for Valentine's Day only to have at least two of my male classmates, and my married professor, make somewhat surprised groans at the reminder that Valentine's Day was, at the time, only two days away.
Also, Mom is here to visit for the weekend. YAY MOM! She and Sister still sleeping. I think they're headed to go look at cars while my sister (poor thing) decides whether it is more beneficial long-term to sink 2k into her current vehicle or purchase something newer-ish. I, unfortunately, have a ridiculous amount of studying I ought to do because I have midterms coming up in three classes within the next week. So, I'll be trying to do that at every instance where Sister isn't working and can therefore hang out with Mom.
**I feel it should be clarified that the 'goddess' part of that compliment is much more related to the fact that it was spoken by a Classicist to a room full of Classicists than it was to the actual superlative/elevated nature of a 'goddess.'
