Alright, I know I never post anymore so I'm waaay overdue for a post about what's goin on in my life, but I need to rant first, so hopefully a post about my life will folllow, though that will be friend-locked so mwahahahaa!
And so I rant:
Everything in the world (besides my awesome boyfriend) seems to be hating on UP! And don't you even ASK what UP is, because if you do I'll whack you with a mallet! UP is the new Pixar movie, it starts TODAY and its awesome! Its about this old guy who, when he was a kid, wanted to be an adventurer with this little girl (she ends up being his wife later on) and then life comes in with its distractions and 75 years pass and the wife passes away and he decides he's going to go on the adventure him and his wife always dreamed about. Now that's a lousy summary, but I'm mad. Why am I mad? Here's why I'm mad:
1-Nobody seems to know about UP or how awesome its gonna be! At least with Wall-e people were all wondering what it was about. And UP has had the same kind of advertising campaign, the only reason I know what its about is because I saw it the other night and I'm crazy about Pixar. Even when I asked my other friends, who are interested in animation btw, they couldn't remember what UP was! WHYYY? Its the new PIXAR movie! That should give it enough reason to stand out!
2-The print was damaged. Actually, both prints were damaged. My theater received two prints, and my wonderful boyfriend and I screeened the first one after it was put together. It hads scratches on it that would pop up randomly, and this is right out of the can. The sound also popped a little too. But that doesn't compare to what happened to the other print. Reel 3 of the second print came out of the can wet, and if anybody wonders what happens to film when it gets wet, it sticks together like it was glued together and then disintegrates. And this reel is smack dab in the middle of the film, so we can't build the complete film. So we order a new copy of reel 3 on Wednesday, it should arrive by 1 pm Thursday (like, yesterday). And also, the first reel of the second print has a nice four-line scratch right at the beginning of it. Now, we can't really screen the movie without the middle reel to check the scratches on the first reel and see how bad they are, so we have to wait until the replacement reel 3 shows up. And here comes the next reason why the world hates UP...
3-Technicolor lost the stinking reel! The people who were in charge of replacing reel 3 for us, which wasn't even damaged by us, it was probably damaged by Technicolor itself, lost the reel! They put it on a plane, but they don't know where the plane ended up. How hard is it to keep track of a plane anyways?! We ended up calling them about 7 times yesterday and they didn't know where the heck it was the whole time so they gave us the run-around and twiddled their thumbs while we tried to build the print as much as we could. So they finally reordered ANOTHER replacement for the replacement reel around 11 pm last night and it SHOULD arrive by 10 am today, the day the movie starts.
So yeah, the world hates UP. I mean, we never get two copies of a movie and have both prints scratched already right when they're out of the can! And I have never seen Technicolor flub up with any other movie like that! *sigh*
And Pixar is the only company that tries to make sure that their film is displayed properly. Some other film companies include a piece of paper in their film can saying what aspect ratio their movie is and what trailers they want to play with it, and that's only some of the companies. Others can't even leave a note in there to let us know they shot it wrong and a boom mike will accidentally drop into the picture on reel four or anything. But Pixar includes trading cards in the can that have the characters from the movie on them and on the other side have complete and detailed information on how to present their film. They have a website set up so projectionists who display their film corredtly win prizes like a trip to the Pixar studios and even have a video on there with the producers of the film personally thanking the projectionists for taking care of their film. They include free helplines you can call if you're confused about something on the movie. On the site they display the beginning and end frame to each reel so you know if someone who had the print before you cut it in the wrong place. They send their representatives out to even rinky-dink theaters like mine to check how the film is playing. I mean, they do sooo much for their films and the company that makes their reels can't even do it right and that screws up the whole movie and all the time they spent on it. I think they should sue Technicolor because I have never seen films come in like this before.
GAH!
The movie rocked, by the way. So go see it, and if you see scratches on it, its all Technicolor's stupid fault.
Rant over.
