Wow I haven't had a real update in a long time. First I was busy with school ending, and then I got a job so I haven't had much time to update. My job is right across the street from my house, literally. I leave five minutes before my shifts start. My first day was May 23. That week I worked days (6am-2pm) then for the next month I was on evenings (2pm-10pm). Now I'm on nights (10pm-6am). It's called Sandia Springs, it's not a retirement home, but an assisted living home. I really love it. I'm sometimes in the front with the independent people, but I'm usually in the back locked-in section called Sandia Court. It's the Alzheimer's unit. Some of the residents back there are fine most of the time, but some are just completely gone. They're all sweet though. On day shift we wake them up, toilet them, dress them, serve breakfast, clean up, set up the lunch tables, do activities, serve lunch, toilet again, then more activities until we leave. Evening starts with activities, then toilets, serves dinner, toilets again, activities, snack, then start putting them to bed. Night shift cleans up the whole court, vacuums, sets the breakfast table, does laundry, delivers laundry, does a toilet check at 1am where we change certain people, then pretty much just watch tv/lounge out until 5 when we toilet mostly everyone. The nights are so easy/relaxing compared to the other two shifts. I love nights. We've already had four people that I knew die, maybe more that I never met.
Now here's a concert/event update:
3-23 JON HEDER AT UNM
This was such a cool event. It was packed, they had to turn people away after the room filled up. For those of you who don't know, Jon Heder is Napoleon Dynamite, the actor who played him anyways. I love that movie so I had to go see him! It was so fun. He talked about himself, about the making of the movie, some little known interesting facts about the filming, then there was a q&a session. A few people gave him tots from the Sonic down the hall (it was in the student union building where the on campus restaurants are) lol. It was just so much fun I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to expect at all but it was great.
3-29 SLUNT
My second time seeing Slunt! I love them so much! For those of you who remember, they opened up for Marilyn Manson back in December, that was the first time I saw them. They are just such amazing musicians. This show they were opening for Motorhead. This is also the day their debut full-length record came out "Get A Load of This". Before the show I saw Abby, the singer, just hanging out in the alley behind the Sunshine. I went over and talked with her and she signed my EP. She told me to come back and get the CD signed after I bought it in the show. She's a doll. Their set was first and we waited for them to get to the merch booth. Then I bought the CD from them and they all signed it for me. Abby saw me and excitedly signed mine. She even said "what's your name mama?" It was adorable. Then a few months later she married Brett Scallions from Fuel. Hot couple right there.
4-4 SLIPKNOT
This concert was good. It consisted of Shadows Fall, Lamb of God and then Slipknot. It was well put together and I enjoyed it.
4-29 SARAH MCLACHLAN
This show was awesome! She is so beyond beautiful in person. I hadn't seen her since the summers of 97 and 98, which was a long time ago! The opening band, The Perishers, were so cute. They're from Australia or something and their accents were sweet. They played good music and made funny comments so it was great. Sarah came out and did a song with them too. She came out in jeans and a nice jacket. Then for her set she wore a dress, of course, and it had a peacock on it. Gorgeous. Her set list was amazing... lots of stuff from my favorite album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Even "Fear" and "Fumbling" and "Wait"! That record is over a decade old and more of that material was played than from any other album. I had 30th row so it was real close and we could see her so well. The whole stage show was incredible. They moved things around and opened songs with different arrangements than on the albums. I hope they release this tour on DVD so everyone can see the magic in it.
4-28 My puppy Amigo turned 12. I feel so old :0
6-10 SUM 41
Boy was this show better than I expected. It opened with a video that the band made with scenes from horror movies and all sorts of things, even Seinfeld. Then the band came out and did a great set. I don't have their albums and I still knew almost every song. Deryck Whibley has such amazing stage presence. I couldn't even believe it. He had total control over us all and he knew it. The way he moved and conducted the band and the audience... wow.
6-20 My birthday of course.
7-7 GO BETTY GO
This show was at the Launchpad and I wasn't planning on going, considering I had never heard of Go Betty Go before. Then I read a piece on them in the Venue of the local newspaper. It said these chicks do bilingual punk rock. I was so in. Luckily I had off work so I got to go! The whole night was great. Face Across the Floor opened. They're a local band led by a guy who goes/went to UNM who I saw once on the shuttle. He looks like Davey Havok from AFI. They were good. Next American Eyes, a local band from California. The singer had a great presence about him and he knew how to move on stage. I'd see them again. Helena Drive, I think they're a local band, were great. I loved the singer's voice. She can sing real sexy which surprised me. Feels Like Sunday were next, and they always deliver. I've seen them more than a few times. Their bass player was sick so they weren't able to do the song I requested "Dark Side", but Joni said they'd do it next time. Last was Go Betty Go who were so good! The singer kinda sounds like MInnie Mouse at first, but then you get used to it. They did two spanish songs which were pretty good. I just found out this week that they're coming back on Aug 24 so I'll have to see if I can get off work that night.
Sorry for the long post, but I hate to cut these things
