I was reading the poem/song by Yeats “Down by the Salley Gardens” to my dad the other night, seeing what kind of reaction it would give him and was surprised and pleased when he said with astonishment that he had actually been listening to it lately on a CD that he had, and that he loved it and that it was sung by the contemporary Irish singer Clannad ( from the band Enya), and that he had actually played it to me earlier in the year. He said no wonder it was so beautiful, because it had been written by the famous poet and we both agreed that standing the test of time like that showed the greatness of Yeats’ writing.
