jessek. Man, I love the Hitchhiker's Guide. One of the first Sci-Fi novels I ever got into. It really changed the way I saw the universe.
I picked this deluxe leather bound collection at B&N for pretty cheap. It's got all five novels in "the increasingly poorly named Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy" + one short story. I really dig the whole bible style of the package, which really fits the humorous nature of the story. Douglas Adams was a total atheist (he was friends with Richard Dawkins) and the story of the Hitchhiker's Guide is very much an atheistic view of science fiction (the Babel Fish, the constant references to evolution, etc.)
I haven't read these books since I was like 12. It's nice to see that the writing and humor has held up well.
It's sad that Douglas Adams checked out at such a relatively young age, though I prefer to think he just finally succeeded in hitching a ride off this planet.
